Springbok drafted into squad

RUGBY
Richard Mulligan reports
SOUTH African Stefan Terblanche will join Ulster Rugby on a shortterm replacement contract for the injured Jared Payne. Ulster director of rugby, David Humphreys, last night confirmed weekend rumours the 36-year-old would be joining the Irish Province on a three-month deal. With New Zealander Payne ruled out with a ruptured Achilles for most of the season having just played in his third game since joining Ulster, the club were given dispensation to recruit another foreign player. Terblanche, who prefers fullback, but can also play on the wing, made his final appearance for his club, Natal Sharks, in the last Saturdays Currie Cup final against the Golden Lions and a date for his arrival in Belfast will be confirmed later. Capped 37 times for South Africa, Treblanche is another significant signing for Ulster in recent years and he will be reunited with his former Natal Sharks teammates, Johann Muller and Ruan Pienaar. Ulster are able to include Terblanche in their Heineken Cup squad as one of their wild cards and they would hope to have his UK Border Agency requirements met as soon as possible with the opening Pool games due to start on November 11. p See Page 54

KNIGHT FEVER
LEON Knight last night attempted to diffuse the latest Twitter row that has sparked uproar in the Irish League. The IFA revealed yesterday they will be looking into comments made by the Coleraine striker in the aftermath of Saturdays draw with Glenavon. Knight (pictured) branded the Lurgan Blues as a bunch of thugs on social networking website Twitter and also criticised the performance of referee Hugh Carvill. On Carvills performance the striker said in 10yrs Ive never seen a ref as bad, comments which led to the IFA confirming they will investigate the matter. The heated Tweets have also prompted Coleraine into action, with the clubs board set to discuss

Coleraine to conduct internal Twitter investigation

Gareth Fullerton reports
the strikers outbursts at a meeting tonight. Bannsiders manager Oran Kearney said the club would await direction from the IFA before issuing any statement. We are aware of the situation involving Leon and the IFAs intention to investigate the matter. It would be premature for us to make any comment until the IFA comes back to the club, Kearney said. Coleraine will obviously conduct its own internal investigation as well. Knight is a regular contributor on Twitter which has seen him amass over 14,000 followers. His post-match comments on Saturday sparked heated responses from fellow Irish League footballers and supporters. Last night Knight appeared to attempt to play down his comments when he Tweeted: The banter has been good. Whatever is said on here from me is all light hearted and its all just friendly banter. He added: I know sometimes you may think my mind is unstable but its just all banter. Back in July the IFA issued guidelines on the use of social networking sites. They state that improper, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting remarks may lead to disciplinary action. The IFA guidelines also state: Comments which may be considered as offensive, use foul language or contain direct or indirect threats aimed at other participants are likely to be considered improper, and will be subject to the Irish FAs Article 33. The IFA will also look into the responses from a number of other Carling Premiership players who voiced their opinions on Twitter over the weekend.
