wobec sytuacji politycznej w kraju i wsparła rządzących ludaków najle-

The role of the Ukrainian diaspora in preserving... 27
Research Analysis
Thus, the focus of this article is the study of the role of the Ukrainian
diaspora in preserving the cultural identity and individuality of the Ukrai-
nian nation during the 60s–70s of the twentieth century, clarifying the
importance of Ukrainians abroad in the formation of world public opin-
ion about Ukraine as a state that wants democratic changes.
In the period of the 60s–70s of the XX century the struggle for the
independence and unity of Ukraine was part of the great political mis-
sion of Ukrainians abroad – this became the main prerequisite for their
cooperation with Ukrainians living on the territory of the Ukrainian SSR.
Representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora, analyzing the course of cul-
tural and educational processes in the Ukrainian SSR from the stand-
point of a civilizational approach, came to the conclusion that universal
human values were written there only on paper and did not find real
implementation in life.
Evaluating the importance of the Ukrainian language as the basis for
the formation and preservation of the nation, Ukrainians abroad tried to
expand and strengthen the scope of its use as much as possible. Archive
documents indicate that the foreign press systematically stated that the
Ukrainian intelligentsia in the Ukrainian SSR rejects the principles of

publishing houses in the Ukrainian SSR were able to publish their works
in the centers of the Ukrainian diaspora in many countries around the
world. The works of O. Honchar, I. Dzyuba, Ye. Sverstyuk, V. Symonenko,
V. Stus, V. Chornovol and other Ukrainian writers, literary critics, pub-
licists and public figures were published during the emigration. Most
of it was «self-published» literature, which was reprinted by Ukrainian
publishing houses abroad, in particular, «Torch», «Trident» (Baltimore,
USA), «Modernity» (Munich, FRG), the First Ukrainian Printing House in
France, etc. Thanks to the latter, in Paris in 1968, V. Chornovol’s work
«The Evil Mind (portraits of Twenty «Criminals»)» was published (Chor-
novil, 1968). This book was translated into English (1968) and French
(1974). It is worth noting that in October 1963 in Munich, the publish-
ing house «Modernity», published V. Barka’s book «The Yellow Prince»
– a documentary novel about the Holodomor in Ukraine of 1932–1933,
which was taboo in the Ukrainian SSR.
Diaspora from Czechoslovakia and Poland provided great support
to Ukrainians in the Ukrainian SSR. The works of the sixties banned
in Ukraine were published in magazines «Duklia», «Amicably forward»,
«People’s calendar» (Czechoslovakia), in the newspaper «Оur word» and
in «Ukrainian Calendar» (Poland)4. In 1965, the Prague publishing house
«Sviet Sovietuv» published in Czech the collection «Young Soviet poetry»
with poems by Ukrainian poets and articles by literary experts, including
L. Kostenko, M. Vingranovskyi, I. Drach, B. Mamaysur, V. Stus, I. Kalin-
tsia, V. Simonenko, V. Korotycha. Through Czechoslovakia and Poland,
the works of the sixties spread to the West.
It should also be noted that Ukrainians abroad were concerned about
the fate of historical science in the Ukrainian SSR, which, in their opin-
ion, was deprived of opportunities to freely study the historical past of
the Ukrainian nation. Historians P. Vakulyak and A. Rusnachenko point
out that diaspora researchers, who were more free in expressing their
positions than the Soviet ones, spoke about the existence of ideologi-
cal frameworks in the Ukrainian SSR that inhibited the development of
many areas of historical science, did not give the opportunity to realize

Ukrainians in mainland Ukraine did not give the desired final results for
the communists. Mutual contacts between Ukrainians only strength-
ened over time. The cooperation of Ukrainians was especially intensified
during the arrests of the Ukrainian intelligentsia, which began in the
republic in the second half of the 1960s and in the 1970s. According to
the researcher N. Brehunets, at the XXXIV Congress of the International
Non-Governmental Organization of Writers of the PEN Club in 1966,
which, in particular, fought for human rights, a group of Ukrainian writ-
ers living abroad protested against the arrests of nationally conscious
intelligentsia in the Ukrainian SSR9. During this period, Amnesty Inter-
national took under its protection I. Dzyuba and I. Svitlychny, and some
Ukrainian human rights defenders, writers, poets, linguists and educa-
tors, in particular I. Kalynets, S. Karavanskyi, V. Moroz, M. Osadchyi,
M. Rudenko, E. Sverstyuk, V. Stus, V. Chornovil received membership in
the International Organization «Ukrainian Human Rights Movement».
At the beginning of July 1971, during a meeting of Amnesty Interna-
tional in London, Ukrainians delivered a report about the Soviet totalitar-
ian empire, whose ruling circles destroyed the leaders of the Ukrainian
national asset in closed courts10. In October 1971, in New York City,
near the UN building, about 1,5 thousand representatives of the dias-
pora staged a demonstration in defense of Ukrainian political prisoners
and as a sign of protest against the murder of A. Gorska and M. Soroka
in the Ukrainian SSR11. In order to help human rights defenders in the
Motherland, in 1972, twenty American women of Ukrainian origin to-
gether with their children interrupted the meeting of the Commission
of the Economic and Social Affairs Council of the United Nations, calling
on everyone to protest against the persecution of the Ukrainian intel-
ligentsia by the Soviet authorities12.
It should be emphasized that the actions of the Ukrainian diaspora in
defense of dissidents in the Ukrainian SSR were a major inhibiting fac-

Abstract
The article found that the Ukrainian diaspora was an integral component of
Ukrainian ethnic integrity. Numerous public and cultural and educational in-
stitutions created by emigrants in their places of residence stood guard over
Ukrainian national interests and, despite all obstacles, conducted fruitful coop-
eration with Ukrainians in the Motherland. In order to preserve and develop the

ru norm, wartości i orientacji nabytych podczas socjalizacji w określonym
kontekście narodowym) może prowadzić do przeceniania różnic kultu-
rowych i pogłębiania marginalizacji osób z doświadczeniem migracji.
Wykorzystywanie kultury do tłumaczenia wszystkich dylematów i kon-
mostów komunikacyjnych i niweluje hierarchie władzy.
Dlatego też kolejne pytania, zawarte w mojej ankiecie badawczej, doty-

Summary
The article presents the conclusions of a pilot survey study conducted in Kra-
kow in September 2022. The author makes a diagnosis of educational activi-
ties undertaken in the municipality of Kraków, in the period from February
25 to June 30, 2022 (in the first four months from the outbreak of the war
in Ukraine). She confronts them with the conclusions of in-depth interviews
conducted with experts in the field of integration. Solutions regarded as “good
practices”, such as additional Polish language lessons, psychological and peda-
gogical assistance, educational departments and intercultural assistantship, are
rated the best. However, children and young people with refugee experience
have little chance of learning the language, culture and geography of their coun-
try of origin. We can also indicate a few critical moments of the integration
process (so-called rich points) that generate tensions in intercultural communi-
cation. These include ambivalent attitudes towards migrant children, youth and
their parents. On the one hand, representatives of the majority society show
empathy and provide real help, on the other hand, they accuse migrants of
being demanding and indecisive. The most difficult situation is currently faced
by young people who do not know the Polish language and are forced to take
Rozwiązania na rzecz integracji dzieci i młodzieży... 77
exams in this language at the end of subsequent stages of education. This age
group is particularly vulnerable to marginalization. The conclusions from the
study also indicated areas requiring further, in-depth evaluation.

The Role of Foreign Direct Investment... 93
Introduction
The role of foreign direct investment has been increased at a global level
due to the returns achieved on the hosted countries. With the onset
of globalization, many developing countries are in dire need of foreign
direct investment due to the low internal resources resulting from in-
sufficient domestic savings. Loans are the alternate option. Due to the
results, foreign nations have demonstrated their ineffectiveness, since
the majority of developing nations are suffering from their inability to
fulfill their duties.
Thus, in light of rising debt indicators and inflated costs, the sources
of funding that remain available is limited to attracting FDI parallel with
stimulating local investment. FDI constitutes one of the most important
capitals that have witnessed great development due to its vital role in
transferring modern technologies, in addition to contributing to the ac-
cumulation of capital, raising the efficiency of human capital through
improving skills and experiences. In order to attract FDI, countries have
intensified their quest by breaking the barriers and obstacles, offering
incentives and guarantees that facilitate entry into the local market.
Therefore, we will try, through this paper, to present the most impor-

produce the same amount of goods that an American worker can pro-
duce alone9. In agriculture, this percentage may reach one tenth, given
the intensity of workers in the agricultural sector.
The low levels of labor productivity in developing countries can be
explained by several factors, including:
–– lack of other factors of production that complement capital and
efficient organization;
–– lack of public savings and investments, especially in the areas of
health and education;
–– the prevalence of manifestations of laziness, indifference and lack
of affiliation among most workers.
The third general factor describing country development is population
increase. The total population of the globe was estimated at about 6.7
billion people in 2007, and this number is expected to reach 9.8 billion
people in 2050, and more than 90% of this number live in developing
countries, which reflects the rapid population increase that prevails in
these countries10. This would affect the pace of the developing countries
by creating harder process to develop due to the rapid population growth.
This contradiction between the number of population and the level of
development experienced by the developing countries is among the most
important features that distinguish them from the developed countries.
Additionally, it should be indicated that the developed countries do not
have a high population density despite their ability to meet the needs
and requirements of human development whose standards are set by in-
ternational bodies. On the opposite side are the developing countries,
which have a high population (for example in China lives around 1.4 billion
people as in Figure 111 , for whom the minimum requirements for human
development such as food and health care cannot be even provided.
In figure 1, we can see the statistics for China’s population. It shows
the annual growth for China in urban areas and rural areas. The water

supply source effects are shown till 2012. However, the issue has been
stagnating in the urban areas. And with the increased population rate,
this would affect the growth of China.

there are also problems related to social issues, whether those related
to crime or public health, unemployment and the spread of illiteracy13.
Due to multidimensional statistical analysis, it allows us to analyze
how the different factors such as: population count, GDP growth, cur-
rent issues, etc. These data affect the ability of growth in such countries.
The latest, discussed by us, a general factor describing country develop-
ment is economic dependency. Economic dependency represents the
essence of the underdevelopment that developing countries suffer from,
and it means the conditional situation in which the economies of certain
countries are governed by growth or contraction that occurs in other
countries, as is the case of developing countries, as despite their gaining
political independence, the aftermath of economic dependence14.
After the second world war, development countries remained in
a state of dependence on the global capitalist economy, due to two
factors:
–– First, the system of international specialization and division of la-
bor that these countries inherited from the colonial stage, which
imposed on them a distorted economic structure through its de-
pendence on the export of raw materials for the global capitalist
market and the import of manufactured products.
–– Second, the nature of the social formations that were formed
under colonialism, which are characterized by the multiplicity of
production patterns and their orientation to foreign markets in
general15.
Accordingly, economic dependence finds its roots in the system of
specialization and division of labor that made the economic structures of
the dependent countries integrated parts with the capitalist economies.
It is all the more important that the terms of trade exchange always tend
to be at the disadvantage of developing countries that export low-priced

The Role of Foreign Direct Investment... 103
The prevailing belief in developing countries was that foreign direct in-
vestment is a means of transferring economic resources from the host
countries to the mother countries for this investment. The current real-
ity has proven that the most developing countries have become aware
of the importance of this investment. The most important issues that
confirm developing their national economies are listed below.
First, most developing countries have adopted a number of economic,
financial and structural reforms, and intensified efforts to continue with
them and take various measures. These actions were made to enable
their economies to adapt to new global challenges, and then build them
on solid foundations to enable them to deal efficiently and positively
with those challenges.
Secondly, most of the developing countries liberalize public policies
and take more liberal and appropriate measures to attract foreign direct
investment21. This is done by countries seeking, in varying degrees, to
intensify efforts to improve the investment climate in them and make it
safe and stable. The latter aspect has an important impact on the deci-
sions related to the selection of investment sites by foreign direct invest-
ment, in addition to opening financial markets and giving full freedom
to foreign companies.
Finally, an important issue that confirms the development of the na-
tional economy is concluding a number of agreements related to encour-

aging foreign direct investment and protecting it from the risks it may
face in these countries22.
In this context, we will try to fundamentally clarify the importance of
foreign direct investment for developing countries. To this end, we will
use the following aspects: contribution to financing development, the
importance of foreign direct investment in strengthening foreign trade,
the importance of foreign direct investment in technology transfer and
the qualifications for its use, contribution to reducing unemployment
and contribution to improving the position of the balance of payments.
The first important aspect of foreign direct investment is contribu-
tion to financing development. The contribution of foreign direct invest-
ment in bridging the gap of local resources and the gap of technology
and skills is an important criterion for measuring the feasibility of this
investment, and this impact is measured through its role in bridging the
gap between the required national resources and the size of the actual
local resources. In addition to its role in closing the technical skills gap
and transferring technology to the host countries, as this type of in-
vestment is considered the carrier of capital and technical and technical
expertise. The foreign resources transferred to the host countries are
represented in foreign capital and technical and technical expertise. In
cases where foreign direct investment is directed towards a particular
sector, it constitutes an important part of the capital invested in this sec-
tor, but also constitutes an important part of the total investment. for
the state. Thus, new investments in some developing countries, such as
China and Indonesia23, remain originally financed from foreign resources,
which indicates that this investment plays a major role in financing some
economic sectors in developing countries such as energy, transportation
and manufacturing industries.
The positive impact of foreign direct investment on the financing
level also appears, when the first wave of this investment creates a later
stream of investment towards the host country, because the success of

Foreign trade is one of the main channels through which the impact of
foreign direct investment on economic growth is transmitted. This oc-
curs when foreign capital flows into the host countries, accompanied
by a number of technologies, international production and marketing
networks, as well as brands. In order to identify the impact of foreign
direct investment on exports, a distinction should be made between two
issues: direct and indirect effects.
In order to identify the impact of foreign direct investment on ex-
ports, a distinction should be made between two issues:
–– The direct effect is represented in increasing the export capabili-
ties of the branches of multinational companies to foreign markets,
due to its capabilities that qualify them to conduct manufactur-
ing operations on raw materials, and to conclude export contracts
abroad, in addition to their marketing skills, thus changing the
manufacturing strategy to promote exports;
–– The Indirect impact arises as a result of the availability of a set of
advantages associated with foreign direct investment for multina-
tional companies, through24.
• transferring modern technology in the field of export production
to local companies, in a way that leads to change in technological

pulation Fund, State of World Population 2015.
The Role of Foreign Direct Investment... 107
Many experts in this regard have emphasized that foreign direct invest-
ment is the real means by which countries that attract it have the possi-
bility to obtain various technological knowledge and acquire the qualifi-
cations to use it. The third important aspect of foreign direct investment
could be divided into: importance of FDI in Technology Transfer and the
importance of foreign direct investment in transferring management and

Discussion
aware of its ability to absorb part of it, or at least limit its aggravation
This investment can contribute to creating job opportunities through
the following actions:
–– First, the foreign direct investment that takes place in the form of
multinational companies leads to the creation of complementary
relations between aspects of economic activity in the host coun-
try. This transpires by encouraging citizens to establish projects to
provide raw materials for these companies, in addition to provid-
ing other auxiliary services. It leads to an increase in the number
of new national projects and then creates new job opportunities.
–– Secondly, the taxes paid by the multinational companies will lead
to an increase in the state‘s resources. Next, this increase will lead
– assuming the stability of other factors to the expansion of the
establishment of various investment projects, which will result in
the creation of new job opportunities.
–– Thirdly, the establishment of multinational companies destined for
export and labor-intensive projects will lead to the creation of new
job opportunities.
–– Finally, the expansion of multinational companies in their activities
with their geographical spread will lead to the creation of new job
opportunities in remote and economically backward areas within
the country.
The report of the International Labor Organization (ILO) confirmed
that foreign direct investment has a positive impact on providing job
opportunities in developing countries28.
Contributing to improving the balance of payments position is the
last important aspect of foreign direct investment. The flow of foreign
direct investment to the host country is accompanied by an influx of
foreign resources mainly represented in capital 29. This is reflected posi-
tively on the balance of the capital account, when foreign companies
resort to selling their foreign currencies in order to obtain the national
currency needed to finance their operations. In the next stage, this in-
vestment contributes to alleviating the shortage of foreign exchange in

the event that it is directed to sectors that replace imports, thus contrib-
uting to filling the need of the national market.
This type of investment also contributes to improving the balance of
payments of the host country. It is done through its contribution to ex-
panding the volume of exports to the countries of the world, especially
since its companies – investment flowing in the form of multinational
companies – are distinguished by their good reputation and knowledge
of foreign markets.
In terms of its importance, this effect may outweigh the negative
impact left by the transfer of capital and profits on the balance of pay-
ments.
As an example Yaekoub (2006) concluded that the flow of foreign
direct investment has a positive impact on the balance of payments in
Sudan.

znajduje zatrudnienie w zawodach związanych z wykonywaniem prac
wojny. W przypadku kobiet wcielanych do wojska prawdopodobnie

nienia nieformalnego. Według definicji zatrudnienie nieformalne to ta-
z wyższymi płacami i lepszymi warunkami pracy. Kobiety z wyższym po-
ziomem wykształcenia mają większe szanse na posiadanie umiejętności
i wiedzy niezbędnej do konkurowania o lepiej płatne miejsca pracy i są
mniej narażone na dyskryminację w miejscu pracy. Struktura siły robo-
czej kobiet i mężczyzn jest zróżnicowana: udział kobiet z wykształceniem
wyższym i średnim zawodowym jest tradycyjnie wyższy niż udział męż-
czyzn i ma tendencję do umiarkowanego wzrostu. W okresie 1992-2012

To, w połączeniu
ści awansu zawodowego kobiet i prowadzić do dyskryminacji.
Jeśli chodzi o bezrobocie to według badań, poziom bezrobocia
w przedziale wiekowym 15-29 lat wśród kobiet i mężczyzn jest pra-
wie taki sam, odpowiednio 43,4 i 42,9% biorąc pod uwagę dane z 2012
roku25. Taki wysoki odsetek spowodowany jest ekonomicznymi, nieko-
rzystnymi warunkami zatrudniania młodych ludzi bez doświadczenia
zawodowego.
świadczeń z tytułu ciąży i porodu, zasiłku macierzyńskiego i utrzymania
stanowiska do momentu, gdy znów będą zdolne do pracy. Takie podej-
i biologicznymi funkcjami w rosyjskim społeczeństwie.
zatrudnionych w gospodarce pracowało w szkodliwych i niebezpiecz-

Pandemia COVID-19
lutego 2023 wykrytych zostało 9287 nowych przypadków zakażenia,
a 40 osób zmarło.
Zgodnie z ofi-
cjalnymi danymi stopa bezrobocia w Rosji osiągnęła swój szczyt – 6,4%
jeszcze przed pandemią w 2018 roku. W trakcie jej trwania wzrosła, ale
już w 2021 roku spadła do poziomu 4,3%. To z pozoru pozytywne zja-
sji. Wolne miejsca pracy zostały zastąpione przez mieszkańców34.

Wojna na Ukrainie
Od 21 września do 28 października 2022 trwała mobilizacja 300 tys.
rezerwistów do Sił Zbrojnych Federacji Rosyjskiej. W następstwie tej
decyzji wielu młodych mężczyzn wyemigrowało z kraju, co zmniejszyło
liczbę pracowników na rynku pracy. Zgodnie z szacunkami miejscowych
dziennikarzy śledczych do wojska powołano jednak więcej, ok. 500 tys.
osób38.
Miejsca emigracji to głównie państwa, do

Abstract
In the geopolitical situation in which Great Britain found itself after its with-
drawal from the European Union in 2020, it was necessary to develop a new
foreign and security policy strategy. The flagship concept of ‘Global Britain’
assumes the reorientation of the United Kingdom outside Europe and greater
involvement in the security architecture of the Indo-Pacific region. The article
examines to what extent the intention to strengthen relations with as like-
minded partners in the Indo-Pacific region coincides with the assumptions of
Australian and New Zealand policies. It has been shown that the former British
dominions, which are part of the so-called the Anglosphere has been given
a vital role in securing the UK’s position as a world leader. From the perspec-
tives of the national interest of both countries, rebuilding ties with the former
empire is considered an important strategic element, although giving it a priority
in the current geopolitical realities is not possible. Australia and New Zealand
put special emphasis on developing cooperation with the Indo-Pacific countries.

tliwa to kobieta bez talentu”34.
go słowami „wiarołomny, nieprzyjazny, hazardzista, fałszywy, zadufany,
znęcający się nad krewnymi, prowadzący nocne życie i nieczyste rozryw-
ki”36.
syna37. Rozczarowanie małżeństwem i wejście w nieakceptowaną nową
rolę społeczną, przygnębiły Qiu Jin38.

Abstract
Women’s issues are a significant subject of study in the realm of Chinese litera-
ture. In many works, it can be seen to oppose stereotypes or norms imposed
on the female gender and to take measures leading to the emancipation of
the individual. Such literature is symptomatic of a desire for change in society,
that is, the overthrow of the patriarchal system and the introduction of equal
rights between the sexes. An example of such prose is the works of China’s first
feminist, Qiu Jin, who decided to fight for women’s rights. She was sentenced
to death for her revolutionary activities. However, her texts introduced a com-
pletely new image of women into the public sphere - different from the one that
had been reproduced for hundreds of years in ancient China. The poet chose to
endow her heroines with charisma, courage, intelligence and the will to fight for
a better life. Her aim was to make women aware of their situation in life, their
social role, and to encourage them to leave the male-dominated world.
Michalina Koniuk, in the chapter Feminist Deconstruction of the Traditional
Image of Woman in Qiu Jin’s Works, proposes to analyse Qiu Jin’s works and
present that the characters created by the writer oppose and destroy the image
of the obedient and uneducated woman that existed in ancient China.
First, the social role imposed on women in Chinese society will be described,
namely that of obedient daughter, wife and daughter-in-law. The requirements and
rules expected of Chinese women will be presented, and how Confucian norms
contributed to the belittling of women’s role and position in Chinese society.
As the poet was inspired by her own life experiences, Qiu Jin’s life will then
be briefly introduced. Her childhood, during which the first signs of dissatisfac-
tion with the obligations and social norms imposed on girls could be observed.
An unsuccessful marriage mobilised the feminist to fight for women’s rights, to
oppose the doctrines of Confucius and to leave home and go abroad. This was
a great act of courage and at the same time a struggle for freedom and inde-
pendence in the life of a feminist.
This will be followed by an analysis of Qiu Jin’s works, whose female characters
exemplify the kind of norms and behaviours that Qiu Jin rebelled against. At the
same time, these characters deconstruct the traditional image of a woman and
introduce a new one of a strong and independent individual. In this chapter, all po-
ems and quotations have been translated by the author from Chinese into Polish.

Recenzowana książka z tej serii, pt. Cultural, Social and Political Dimen-
sions of Non-European Societies: Case Studies of Selected Societies in Asia
and the Middle East [Kulturowe, społeczne i polityczne wymiary społe-
czeństw pozaeuropejskich: studia przypadków wybranych społeczeństw
Azji i Bliskiego Wschodu] pod redakcją dr hab. Joanny Marszałek-Ka-
wa, prof. UMK, oraz dra hab. Jakuba Zajączkowskiego, stanowi jeden
z przykładów opracowań wielotematycznych i wieloautorskich. Warto
innego badacza.
Pierwszy rozdział, autorstwa Łukasza Danela, pt. The Changing Role
of the Commonwealth as an Element in India’s Global Positioning [Zmienia-
Autor w swojej pracy stwo-
rzył swoistą oś czasu, na której umiejscowił poszczególne kroki milowe
w kontekście samej ewolucji Wspólnoty i Indii w jej strukturach. Taki
organizacji, a dokładniej znaczenia Wspólnoty w polityce zagranicznej
tego New Delhi. W podsumowaniu Autor słusznie wskazuje właśnie to
Marian Tadeusz Mencel w drugim rozdziale, zatytułowanym The Socio-
-Political Impact of the May 4 Movement on Chinese Nationalism, Civil Society
and Rejection of the Confucian Tradition [Społeczno-polityczny wpływ ruchu
4 maja na chiński nacjonalizm, społeczeństwo obywatelskie i odrzucenie
tradycji konfucjańskiej], analizuje zjawiska społeczne, które doprowadziły
do masowych protestów w Chinach w 1919 roku. Badanie tych przemian,
