Madura Bridge, is a bridge with three cable-stayed sections constructed between Surabaya on the
island of Java and the town of Bangkalan on the island of Madura in Indonesia. Opened on June
10, 2009, the 5.4-km bridge is the longest in Indonesia and the first bridge to cross the Madura
Strait. The cable-stayed portion has three spans with lengths 192 m, 434 m and 192 m.
The bridge has two lanes in each direction plus an emergency lane and a dedicated lane
for motorcycles. The first toll bridge in Indonesia, fares have been initially set at Rp. 30,000
(US$3 in 2009) for four-wheeled vehicles and Rp. 3,000 (US$0.30) for two-wheelers. The bridge

worker and injuring nine others. Work on the bridge halted at the end of 2004 due to lack of
funds, but was restarted in November 2005. The main span of the bridge was connected on March

3 Mount Five Fingers

(A Legend from Cyprus)
A long time ago, a very pretty girl lived in a village in an area close to today’s Girne.
Around the beautiful girl, there were two men who were both very much in love with her. One
boy’s heart was made of gold, while the other was totally the opposite. One day the boys got tired
of trying to outwit each other, so they decided on a duel. Whoever won would get the girl’s hand
and heart.
The duel would take place in a swamp area. The malevolent man tried a cunning plan to win
over the good-hearted man, by wounding and pull him down deeper into th7e swamp.
The goodhearted man slowly began to sink deeper into the swamp, and when he tried to pull
himself out of the mud, he raised his sword with one last effort, and the sword slipped from his
grasp. He slowly pulled down his opponent in the swamp, but was himself also buried with five
fingers open to the sky.
Meanwhile, the marshy area dried out and the good-hearted man’s hand turned into
mountains. Today we can see his knuckle with five fingers on east Kyrenia Mountain.

10 Thailand Bans Smoking, Littering at Popular Tourist Beaches
Thailand banned smoking and littering at 24 beachside locations that are popular with
tourists over environmental concerns on Thursday, January 31, the ministry of natural resources
and environment said.
The Southeast Asian country has been a tourist magnet for decades, from its backpacker
heyday in the early 1990s to its current popularity with tourist from mainland China. It expects to
welcome a record 37.55 million tourists in 2018.
Environmental rights groups have urged successive governments to protect Thailand’s
palm-fringed beaches, which are frequently voted among the world’s most beautiful, from
unregulated development and littering, among other things.
A law that came into force on Thursday is aimed at tackling this problem, said Bannaruk
Sermthong, a director at the Office of Marine and Coastal Resources Management.
“Starting today, smoking and cigarette littering are prohibited on beach areas,”
Bannaruk told Reuters.
“Anyone who wants to smoke must do so in designated smoking areas, not on the
beaches.”
The law protects 24 beaches in 15 provinces located along the Andaman coast and the
Gulf of Thailand. Anyone who violates the law will be taken to a criminal court and could face up
to one year in jail, or a fine of up to 100,000 baht ($3,190), or both.

14 The Benefits of Online Learning

Online learning, also known as e-learning, has become increasingly popular in recent years, and
for good reason. This method of education offers numerous advantages over traditional classroom
learning. Let's explore some of the key benefits of online learning.
Firstly, online learning provides flexibility and convenience. Students can access course materials
and lectures from anywhere with an internet connection, allowing them to create their own study
schedules. This flexibility is particularly beneficial for individuals with busy lifestyles or those
who may be working while pursuing their education.
Secondly, online learning offers a wide range of course options. Students can choose from a
diverse array of subjects and programs, often with the ability to tailor their learning experience to
match their interests and career goals. This variety ensures that learners can find courses that are
relevant and engaging for them.

before moving on. This personalized approach accommodates different learning styles and allows
individuals to focus on areas where they need more attention.
In addition, online learning often proves to be more cost-effective than traditional education. With
no need for commuting or physical classroom space, students can save on transportation costs and
sometimes even tuition fees. This makes education more accessible to a broader range of people.
Lastly, online learning promotes the development of valuable digital skills. In today's technology-
driven world, proficiency in using online platforms and tools is essential. Engaging in online
learning equips students with these skills, preparing them for the demands of the modern
workplace.
Why is flexibility considered a significant advantage of online learning?

19 Studying Abroad Experience

Dear Emma,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I wanted to share my recent experience
of studying abroad in London. It has been an incredible journey filled with challenges and
discoveries.
During my time here, I've had the opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture and meet
people from diverse backgrounds. The academic environment is challenging, but it has allowed
me to grow both intellectually and personally. The British Museum, with its rich history, and the
vibrant streets of Camden Town are among my favorite places to explore during my free time.
Living in a foreign country has also presented its fair share of challenges. Adapting to the British
weather was no easy feat, and I've learned to embrace the constant drizzle. Additionally, the
differences in the education system required me to adjust my study habits and communication
style.
Despite the challenges, I've made lifelong friends and created memories that will stay with me
forever. From attending traditional English tea sessions to exploring the picturesque countryside,
each experience has contributed to my personal and cultural growth.
I am eager to hear about what's happening in your life. How are things back home? I hope you are
doing well in your studies and finding time for some adventures of your own.
Looking forward to catching up soon!
Warm regards,
[Brian]

29 Hold on (By Shawn mendez)

Stop, take it in and I
Breathe for a minute, I
Think too much when I’m alone
I never win when I
Keep all my thoughts inside
So I’ll pick up the phone

And my dad says Shawn stay with me

Everything will be alright
I know I haven’t seen you lately
But you’re always on my mind

I don’t know what

You’re going throught
But there’s so much life
Ahead of you
And it won’t slow down
No matter what you do
So you just gotta hold on
All we can do is hold on, yeah
These days are flying by
Weeks feel like minutes, I
Can remember being small
I try to figure it out
I can seem to find out how
I guess I don’t know much at all
What is probably experienced by the singer?

A He doesn’t know what you are going through

B He just got to hold on
C He is having difficult time with his life
D He is alone and needs a friend he can count on
E He is having disputes with his parents
