Learning Outcome b):

PLC program to control a specific process which includes a significant number of the
devices covered above.

Marks
You will be given an industrial scenario by your assessor. For this scenario,
you are to write, test and evaluate a PLC program to satisfactorily achieve
the system functionality outlined in the scenario.
NB : to cover the ‘significant number of devices’ required by this learning
outcome, the scenario will require specifying the interfacing to the input and
output devices:
Lamps, pushbuttons, motors, sensors, etc.

Marks will be allocated as follows :

Program :
 Program runs and has the desired functionality 40
10
 Program listing is submitted and fully documented
10
 A suitable visualisation is included with the program – as a minimum,
screenshots of the visualisation should be included in the word document
accompanying the program submission
Interfacing :
 A table of input and output devices is given, comprising a suitable device 10
selected from online for each required device, along with the type of
interface specified with the following details – Analogue or Digital, Voltage
range or current range
Evaluation :
 Ease of use writing the programming has been discussed. 5
 Suitable alternatives explored (including attempt at coding the program in 20
another language/environment)
5
 Recommendations for improvement to the operation of the program and / or
system have been made

Industrial Scenario:

● Use the CODESYS program to write the PLC program for the
control task:

Program Logic:
Develop ladder logic program according to the logic given below,
1. The start/stop push button is provided for control of the two
input pump motors P1 and P2.
2. The Start/Stop pushbutton station is operated to control pump
P1.
3. When the tank is full drain pump motor P3 is started
automatically and runs until the low-level sensor is actuated.
4. After 3 fillings of the tank by pump P1 control automatically
shifts to pump P2.
5. The operation of the start/stop pushbutton now controls pump
P2.
6. After 3 fillings of the tank by pump P2, the sequence is
repeated.

Connect a VISUALISATION.
Test functionality of your ladder logic program.

Use the scenario to produce all required pieces of work as required.
