What are the solid materials? Divide the class in two groups, assign a group leader for each group and
let them perform the activity based from the different real objects they
Can you describe the objects? brought.

What are your observations on the solid? Materials could be( hotdogs, leaf, stones, spoon, bread, etc)

Can you tell if these solids are hard, soft, rough, smooth, round, square, Let each member of the group write their observation on the table( see
colored, black, and white? Appendix 6 day 2 )

Discuss the characteristics of solids

Some solids are hard, soft, rough, and smooth.

We can describe solids if it is hard, soft, rough, or smooth

when we hold them.

We can describe their color and shape using our eyes.

GW DT

Divide the class into two groups. Assigned a leader for each group. Ask the leader in each group to report their findings with their
observation
Let the pupils answer activity 2 ( see Appendix 7 day 2)

Ask:
 What did you observe when you drop the different materials in a
water at the same time?
 What are the materials sink?
 What are the materials floats?
 From the different materials, what goes undergo from decaying

Appendix 1

Day 1 Grade 3Q 1 W 1

Solids are materials that are firm or hard, not having a

form of liquid or gas, not having space inside.
Solid is the one of the three fundamental states of matter.
It is characterized by structural rigidity and resistance to
change of shape or volume

In handling materials such as solids materials, remember the

following:
 follow the established set rule given by a teacher
 be caution enough in handling materials
 careful

Appendix 3
Day 1 Grade4 Q 1 W 1

Background Information for Teachers:

What happen when I drop some different materials in a basin?

Introduce the following word:

 Absorb-to take in (something, such as a liquid) in a natural or gradual

way
 Porous- having small holes that allow air or liquid to pass through
 Non-Porous-materials that do not allow air or liquid to pass through

There are different materials in our environment that can be classified
according to their ability to absorb water.

Some materials can absorb water more than others.

Cotton is very porous, which makes it a natural absorber of water

Plastics as a non-porous material, does not allow water to pass through

Porous materials are materials having small holes that allow air or liquid to
pass through.

When materials get wet there were changes in its characteristics.

Paper bag easily get wet than plastic bag, a non porous material which does
not allow water to pass through.

We need to use raincoats to prevent us from getting wet. Plastic does not
allow water to pass through.

Day 2 Grade 4 Q 1 W 1

Background Information for Teacher

Sink means to fall to the bottom of water

Float means to stay on top
Some things float on top of water, some stay submerged partway
down, and some things sink
Some things sink very fast, some things sink slowly
An object’s shape can affect its ability to float, but some materials
float no matter what their shape-such as Styrofoam and balsa wood
