Application Of DP

Types of DP Vessels
Applications – DP System

1. Diving and ROV

support – a typical
Class 3 DP Operation

2. Multipe-role DP vessel
for Diving / ROV
support
Types Of DP Vessels
• Applications
Pipelay/Cable Lay (rigid and
flexible pipe) a DP opertaion
where the heading and speed
very accurately is controlled
 Accomadation or
‘Flotel’ services.

 Stays in position by
means of a DP system
for long periiods
(months) as
accomodation for
platform personnel
 Hydrographic / Seismic
survey.
 Towing long lines
(streamers) with
hydrophones can be 3 to 4
km. long.
 Sailing pre- defined tracks
and taking measurements.
Applications

 Towing long lines

(streamers) with
hydrophones can
be 3 to 4 km. Long

 Sailing pre-defined
tracks and taking
measurements.
Hydrographic/Seis
mic Survey.
• Dregging vessels can
dredge the seabed
according predefined
tracks

• Into account has to

be taken the draft of
the vessel and the
drag force on the
suction heads and
pipes
APPLICATIONS
 Rockdumping
(Pipeline and
platform scour
protection) vessel is
carrying a fall pipe
connected to a ROV

 The Vessel is sailing

a predefined track
over the pipeline
where the position
of the ROV is
measured by a HPR
System.
 Subsea Installation
and Lifting
Operations
 It requires vessel
with an accurate
controlled position
and reasonable
enviromental
conditions.
APPLICATIONS
o FPSO (Floating
Production Storage &
Offtake) is connected with
a Flexible hose to the
Shuttle Tanker.

o During the offloading

operations, both vessels
are in Weathervane
Mode (Minimum Power
Heading) where the
Shuttle Tanker is
following the FPSO by
the use of a special DP
software version, called
DARPS (Differential
Absolute & Relative
Position System).
APPLICATIONS
 Cruise vessels are not
allowed to anchor in
coral areas.
 They stay in position
on DP while
passengers are
transferred for shore
visits.
 A lot of time is saved
while calling port or
leaving port.

Some Examples of Offshore DP Operations
 Drilling : Exploration & Production of Subsea oil & gas
 Diving/ROV Support : Installation, Maintenance of subsea structures
 Platform Support : Supply, Anchor Handling, Towing, Rescue
 Pipe Laying : Installation of Subsea pipelines for oil/gas
transportation
 Cable Laying/Repair : Installation, Repair of subsea cables
 Crane Barges : Floating cranes with high SWL used for installation
activities
 Rock Dumping : Systematic laying of rocks for seabed pipeline/cable
protection
 Offshore Loading : Shuttle Tankers off taking oil/gas from FSO/OLT
 Flotel Units : Floating accommodation units for offshore
personnel
