 The learners demonstrate an understanding of the different characteristics of vertebrates.
B. Performance Standards
 The learners should be able to make an inventory of vertebrates.

C. Learning Competencies:
 Describe distinguishing characteristics of each group of vertebrates.
II. CONTENT:
Describe the distinguishing characteristics of each group of vertebrates.
Classify each group of vertebrates.

A. References: MELC, Q2 Science 6 Module 4
B. Other Learning Resources: Power point, pictures of animals and activity sheets

III. Procedures:
A. Review previous lesson or presenting the new lesson.

“Charades”
Lets divide the class into two groups.
Category: Animal

Mechanics in doing activity:


1. Choose among your group who will act out the word being picked.
2. Act the word using hand signals and body motion but no spoken words.
3. The remaining members of the group will guess the word to have a point.
4. Each group will be given 1 minute to play the game.
5. The group that has the highest point will be the winner of the game.

This day, we will be studying about animals particularly the vertebrates.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills # 1

Animals found in the locality are classified into vertebrates and invertebrates. Vertebrates are
animals with backbones that give shape and support their body. Bones are predominant feature in the
body of vertebral animals that serve as protection of their internal organs. The presence of bones in the
animal’s body helps the animals to walk, jump, crawl, and swim. Animals can be oviparous and
viviparous. Viviparous are animals that are born alive by their parents such as dogs, carabao, and cats,
while oviparous animals are those that are hatched from egg such as chicken, duck, and snake.

Group Activity:
Now, we are going to have a group activity. I will group you into four and you are going to do an
activity with your group. But before that, what are the standards to be observed during group activity?
-Share your ideas.
-Cooperate with the group.
-Work silently.

Direction:

1. Group I: NAME Me: Cite animals that belongs to their classifications.


2. Group II: CLASSIFY ME: Classify animals in the correct column.
3. Group III: PICK ME: Put the pictures of the animals to the correct classifications.
