A short Monologue

“...Your story may not have such a happy beginning but that doesn’t make you who you are, it is

the rest of your story, who you choose to be…”

 The character wants the Panda to understand that he might be started as an orphan but

that doesn’t mean he’s a failure. She believes – and surely predicted, since she was a

soothsayer, who had a unique ability to foresee the future – that he’s the one who could

change his entire life ahead, not his starting point that defines who he will be.

 There were no obstacles that prevented the character from wanting to tell the Panda what

she needed. This was her inspirational speech that she gave to the Panda in order to

motivate, help him to find his inner peace, when he was about to give up.

 The method/action that the character used was trying to remind the Panda about his past

life, when he was a baby and his parents died trying to protect him and then his life had

changed when a duck adopted him. This was to tell the Panda that no matter how bad his

past was, he still could do something to change his future, his later chapters of his life.

2. Observing a random person’s way of walking. Where do they lead from?

 I was sitting by the Student Union Building waiting for my bus to come then I suddenly

saw a random guy passing by.

 He walked really fast, probably in a hurry. His feet always pointed first but really felt like

it was the chin that led the way he walked.

 He had both hands placed in the jacket pocket, wearing headphones, maybe with a little

shake from the head, chin up, and walked confidently.

3. State of being - Worksheet (from the monologue)

 Character name: The Soothsayer

 Show details (source material - writer, etc.): Kung Fu Panda 2

1. Describe your character. Include the following: name, age, appearance, health

 She has no name, however, due to her unique ability to predict the future, she was

called Soothsayer

 She was an old Chinese goat and still very healthy and funny

2. Describe your role within your community - occupation, relationships, etc.

 She was the Panda’s enemy, Shen, advisor.

 She was all alone by herself, serving the Panda’ enemy family

 After making a dark prediction about Shen that resulted in the destruction of a

village and nearly an entire species, she was burdened with guilt even after Shen

had been banished for his actions by his parents. That's why she chose to stay and

serve him with the hope that it would help him realize and escape the abyss of

arrogance and evil

3. Describe your day up until this moment. What happened?

 Her main duties were to foresee the future for her master, Shen, as a role of

advisor.

 Mostly the things that she has foreseen reflect the truth of the supercilious master,

and because of this bad personality, he would absolutely be defeated.

4. What would your character have with them? Props, etc.

 She had a walking cane, and eyeglasses with her, and of course, a unique ability

to predict the future.

5. Who would your character be sure to speak to this morning?

 Shen, the Panda’s enemy, and she was trying to foresee that he would be defeated

by a “warrior of black and white”, which was the Panda.

6. What does your character want?

 Help the Panda to finally find his inner peace and fight back against the devil.

7. Describe the last minute of your charater’s life, “before the lights came up”.

 Hopeful, strongly believed with what she had told the Panda, she had hope in him,

and also her unique gift.

4. Class’s activities about Breathing technique applied into the way we make sounds

 I now understand how such a basic breathing technique could be really important to

deliver sounds which I make to the audience.
