5 Businesses that contribute to the wellbeing of the


community and their employees.

1. Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)

(Community)
 KFC partnered with over 140 non-profit organisations like Jam, Africa Tikkun and SOS
Children’s Villages, as well as smaller organisations in local communities. The money
goes to them so that they can feed the children nutritious meals in the communities
they serve (also better known as the KFC Add Hope campaign).

(Employees)
 The company’s quarterly plans give all staff the chance to earn a bonus on top of
their income, whether they are Paid on an hourly rate or receive an annual salary.

2. Checkers

(Community)
 The Group donates surplus food from each of its stores to the tune of more than
R100 million every year, while its fleet of mobile soup kitchens addresses the
immediate needs of communities around the country every week.

(Employees)
 The checkers’ Group has issued a R8.9 billion worth of shares to its employees
through a new black economic empowerment (BEE) trust, effectively increasing
black ownership in the subsidiary to 19.2%. It was intended to retain, motivate and
incentivise the employees of the checkers group to continue towards its success
going forward.

3. Woolworths

(Community)
 For many years, Woolworths has worked with structured charity organisations to
donate surplus food from food stores to communities who need the support. This
contributes the alleviation of hunger in local communities, as well as reduces food
waste to landfill from our own operations.

(Employees)
 Woolworths provides their employees with relevant and accessible wellness and
occupational health and safety programmes to meet their needs. Wellness for
employees includes a well-established operational occupational health and wellness
model across the Group. This model is based on three pillars: movement, nutrition,
and mental wellbeing.

4. Pick n Pay
(Community)
 Pick n Pay is the biggest retail donor to the food security agency FoodForward SA
(formerly FoodBank). Through their partnership, FoodForward has been able to
provide food to more than 4450 beneficiary organisations across the country, which
in turn provide more than 11 million meals a year.

(Employees)
 Pick n Pay provides a medical scheme to their employees. The medical scheme is
especially for members who need support or chronic medicines to manage
conditions affecting mental wellness such as depression, anxiety, substance
dependency and severe stress reactions.

5. Pep-stores
(community)
 PEP manages several funds that provide support to hundreds of local organisations
every year. Santa Shoebox is a national project PEP supports financially and the
contents of the box are available for donors to purchase at any PEP store.

 PEP provides their employees with insurance, Health and wellness programs as well
as financial & retirement opportunities.
