FIRST MAJOR PERFORMANCE TASK

Lesson Title: ANALYZING DATA Materials:

Student Activity Sheets
Lesson Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, I can: References:
1. Convert a normal random variable to a standard normal variable.
2. Calculate the mean and the variance of a discrete random variable.

I. GOAL
As researchers, you will present the data and test the hypothesis. You need to assess and analyze whether
there is enough evidence to support or reject a specific statement or claim about a population or phenomenon
in your data collection.

II. ROLE

As a researcher, you are tasked to gather data for your research paper through a survey. Data gathered will be
used to calculate the mean and variance. You need to construct a normal distribution curve, interpret data,
analyze it, and make a conclusion about whether to reject or accept the null hypothesis in your paper.

III. AUDIENCE

You must present your data collection to the statistician of your paper.

IV. SITUATION

Now that you have gathered all the data from the topic given, it is time to solve for the data gathered and make
the interpretation.

During this stage, you should present the gathered data from normal distribution to standard normal distribution.
Conclude the data by interpreting the collected answer from the respondents using the standard normal
distribution by stating the skewness (skewed to the left or skewed to the right) and the dispersion (how far is the
standard deviation) of the distribution.

SAMPLE TEMPLATE FOR YOUR TASK

Topic: Number of hours teachers spend teaching parallel classes in a day.

Ho: There is no significance on the number of hours teachers spend in teaching parallel classes in a day.
Ha: There is a significance in the number of hours teachers spend teaching parallel classes in a day.

Question: How many hours do you spend teaching parallel classes in a day?

Data

RESPONDENTS (n) TIME (hours) SPEND (x)

Respondent 1 3 hours
Respondent 2 6 hours
Respondent 3 7.5 hours
Respondent 4 4.5 hours
Respondent 5 1.5 hours
Respondent 6 5.5 hours
Respondent 7 3 hours
Respondent 8 5.5 hours
Respondent 9 4.5 hours
Respondent 10 3 hours

Normal Distribution Standard Normal Distribution

Therefore, the data shows a negative skewed which implies that most of the respondents are above average in terms of the
number of hours they spend in teaching. Thus, there is a significance on the number of hours teachers spend in teaching
parallel classes in a day.

V. PRODUCT/PERFORMANCE

Final output will be presented based on the steps below. The green font will be done for the first major
performance task. Red font will be done for second mini performance task and second major performance task.

Step 1: Null and Alternative Hypothesis

Step 2: Level of Significance and appropriate test statistic

Step 3: Determine the Critical Region

Step 4: Compute the z-value

Step 5: Decide whether to accept or reject Ho.

Step 6: Conclusion
