To Whom it May Concern:

I am writing to outstandingly recommend Brandon OIivar to your esteemed organization. I have had the pleasure of
knowing Brandon for the last year as his AP Language and Composition teacher and this space is not enough to cover
Brandon’s achievements and character. Brandon is a well-formed, holistic individual who leads with maturity and drive in
all that he does.

Academically, Brandon consistently performs and masters at a higher level of thinking, work, and responsibility. Meaning,
he has maintained a 4.6 GPA not just in general classes, but choosing to take all honors, AP, and college courses. Even
then, he not only meets expectations, but out achieves the standards. For example, as we work with rhetoric and
argumentation in our AP class, Brandon understands the concepts, but takes it further to application and world
implementation. Even then, he formulates the concepts in his writing, and his writing is beyond any level of voice and
style I have seen for a high school student in my 15 years of teaching. And not just the level of his work, but his ability to
be creative and think outside the box in every type of activity we do: independent, collaborative, project-based,
scaffolding, partner-share, or assessment.

Not only academically exemplary, Brandon also is well-rounded. He participates in various extracurriculars that are not
aligned to one type of activity, but all kinds. For example, he has been in ASB since his freshman year, and has been the
treasurer for the last two years. He is also a student Ambassador, working Summer Innovation welcoming new students to
the school, and all parent and student events. He is also on the School Site Council, being a voice and advocate for the
student body at the monthly meetings. Lastly, he is part of the National Honors Society. In addition to his work with the
school, Brandon is part of organizations such as Wrench & Ride, an organization working and teaching skills in relation to
salvageable bikes; USC Board Scholars, a highly selective year-long program with a three-week residential placement at
the University of Southern California for high-achieving, low-income students; and the Society of Hispanic Professional
Engineers that explores the fields of STEM.

Ultimately, Brandon wants to pursue a Masters in Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. I have no doubt
that he will do great things with his experience, education, and humanity. Please accept my recommendation for Brandon
Olivar. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Yasaman Jahed, M.A., MEd
