Evidences of Evolution

Presented by Mark John Gallego

Pre-Service Teacher
Hello Grade 10
Welcome to Our
Class!
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you will be
able to:
1. Compare homologous, analogous, and vestigial structures
and analyze their significance in evolutionary history; and

2. Classify homologous, analogous, and vestigial structures and analyze

their significance in evolutionary history; and

3. Explain how fossils record, comparative anatomy and

genetic code information provide evidence for evolution.
Are you familiar with
the term "fossils"?
GROUP ACTIVITY

The class will divid into 4 groups and each group have manila paper to
write their answers.

They will brainstorm and try to answer the provided question:

WHY ARE FOSSILS ARE IMPORTANT?

After brainstorming, the students will present the data gathered and will
discuss it in front of the class as a group.

The leader of each group or the representative will answer the guide
questions and present it to the
class.
FOSSILS RECORDS
FOSSIL RECORDS
Our knowledge on the history of life is based on the
fossil record.

Fossils are evidences or any remnants of organisms

that lived a long time ago.

We can trace and reconstruct the transformation of

certain specie over a period of time. These provide a
clear evidence that there has been an evolution of
Life.
Relative dating
It is a technique based on the Radioactive dating
geological law of superposition. It involves the use of radioactive

Comparative Anatomy
Structures that are similar in
forms and origin
b ut have different functions
are called HOMOLOGOUS
STRUCTURES.

Structuresthat are different

in forms and origin but
similar in function is
called ANALOGOUS
STRUCTURES.
VESTIGIAL
STRUCTURES

VESTIGIAL STRUCTURES are structures that have reduced in

function in organisms as they adapted to the changes in their
environment. Some structures in some group of organisms may
have lost most or all their function but in others may still be
functional.
Comparative Biochemistry
The most reliable evidence for evolution is the
comparison of DNA and RNA nucleotides among
organisms

it will help determine different species are related or not. Biologists

use DNA and RNA sequencing to indicate
Evolutionary relationships among species within the taxonomic
groups

The greater the similarity of DNA and RNA sequence, the closer the
relationship of organisms
