Characteristics
Characteristics of CHinese Music

Present day CHinese music has been inf luenced by


ancient chinese religion, philosophies and culture. THe
characteristics of Chinese music are very unique compared
to music from other cultures. The time signature mostly
used in chinese music is the 4/4 time signature but some
chinese music use the 6/8 time signature. Vibrato can be
heard a lot in CHinese music due to the tonal qualities of
the CHinese language. There are different styles of music,
the most common are: classic, opera, modern chinese music
and folk.

different unique tones and is
thought to represent the early
stages of music where not much
types of music were created. The
scale was thought to be used to
tune the Greek kithara (lyre) in
ancient times.
