Chapter 1 General Description
1. Overview
This switchboard is the equipment used to supply the required power to the emergency electrical
loads in the ship, by operating the AC generator when power from the main switchboard fails.
This instruction manual describes the operating procedures of the generators and the power
supplying procedures using this switchboard, and for further details on the related equipment,
please refer to the respective instruction manuals.
This switchboard has been designed and manufactured in accordance with the Classification
Rules and Regulations of the ship, JIS and JEM.
3. Structure
This switchboard feeds important equipments for electrical system of ship control.
Therefore, in order to ensure that this switchboard is properly maintained, be sure to perform
periodic maintenance in a sufficient manner.
Types of failures include “no illumination of indicator lamp”, “malfunctions or operational
failure of equipment”, and the following are their possible causes.
(1) Wire breakage of the circuit
(2) Grounding of the circuit
(3) Shorting of the circuit
(4) Contact failure of the circuit
(5) Insufficient fastening of fixing screws

Chapter 2 Generator Start and Stop
(1) Preparations
The voltage regulator (VR) shall be set at the rated value. If this value is unknown, first set
the value at the lowest, start the engine, gradually raise the voltage to the rated value.
Start the engine locally. For details on the starting the engine, see the instruction manual
supplied by the engine maker.
After the engine is started and as the engine speed increases, the voltage rises correspondingly,
turning on the POWER indicator lamp.
1) Operate the voltmeter switch to check the generator voltage, and using voltage regulator
(VR), make adjustments until the rated voltage value. Turning this VR clockwise increases
the voltage. The VR is provided in the emergency switchboard.
2) When the rated voltage value has been obtained, operate the frequency meter switch to
measure the frequency. Confirm that the frequency is the rated value (60 Hz).
Take special care that the following procedure will not be reversed.
1) Remove the load from the generator completely.
2) Check that power is being supplied from the main switchboard.
3) Stop the engine.
For details on stopping the engine, see the instruction manual supplied by the engine maker.
Operating the STOP push-button switch (PB11) of the emergency generator engine energizes the
ENGINE STOP solenoid valve for 25 seconds, stopping the engine.

Chapter 3 Space Heater
In order to prevent a decline in insulation resistance of the stator coil, etc. due to humidity, the
generator interior is heated by the space heater when the generator is out of operation.
1-1 Setting the space heater switch (SH-S) equipped on the generator panel at the ON position
allows the generator interior to be heated and SPACE HEATER indicator lamp (OL-SH) will
illuminate.
1-2 When the generator is operated, the voltage sensor operates and automatically open the space
heater circuit to stop heating even if the space heater switch (SH-S) is ON.
Chapter 4 Others
1. Earth lamp
(1) When the earth lamp test switch (ELS) is set at “NOR.”, the three earth lamps (PHASE R,
PHASE S, PHASE T) will illuminate at the same brightness.
(2) Setting the earth lamp test switch (ELS) at “TEST” allows each phase to be checked for
earthing.
1) If the phase R is incompletely grounded somewhere, the earth lamp (PHASE R) will
become dim, and it will be off when complete grounding is attained.
2) If none of the phases are grounded, the three earth lamps continue to maintain the same
level of brightness.
3) When you have done with the earth lamp test, be sure to return the earth lamp test switch
(ELS) to “NOR.”.

2. Earth monitor ∞ - 0.2 MΩ - 0 MΩ
The earth monitor monitors the state of grounding for each phase at all times. When the
insulation resistance of Phase R, S or T decreases below the alarm point, the LOW
INSULATION lamp (RL) will illuminate, activating the alarm buzzer (at the main switchboard).
The insulation resistance alarm point can be changed by operating the knob provided on the
earth monitor. It is already set at 0.1 MΩ before delivery from the Factory.

Chapter 5 Automatic Transfer to the Emergency Generator
5-1 Overview
Usually power is supplied to the emergency load of the emergency switchboard from the main
switchboard (main generator). When power fail on the main switchboard (main generator) to
the emergency load, it will immediately start the emergency generator automatically to supply
power to the emergency load less than 45 seconds after the power failure.
Check that the READY TO START indicator lamp (WL12) of the emergency generator engine
is ON, then change the EMERG. GENERATOR CONT switch (43A) from “MANU.” to
“AUTO ST-BY” to put the emergency generator in the AUTO ST-BY mode. At this time,
check the AUTO ST-BY indicator lamp (WL-SB) of the emergency generator is ON.
If a supply failure of power from the main switchboard occurs when the emergency generator is
in the AUTO ST-BY mode, it will automatically start the emergency generator engine. After
the establishment of voltage of the emergency generator is detected by the voltage sensor, the
bus control contactor (MD) is changed over to the emergency generator side, starting supply of
power to the emergency load from the emergency generator.
When power from the main switchboard returns normally, the bus control contactor (MD) is
automatically changed to the main switchboard side, starting supply of power to the emergency
load from the main switchboard.
If the relay (J1A) operates when power is being supplied to the emergency load from the main
switchboard with the air circuit breaker (52-E) of the emergency generator being ON, the AUTO
ST-BY indicator lamp (WL-SB) of the emergency generator will be ON.
When the emergency generator is in the AUTO ST-BY mode and a supply failure of power from
the main switchboard occurs, the timer (J1C) will operate to activate the relay (J1B), which will
operate the ENGINE START relay (106) outputting the ENGINE start signal.
- 6 -
When the engine is started and the voltage of the emergency generator rises to exceed 415 V, the
relay (B1W) will be on to operate the relay (J1E) to change the bus control contactor (MD) to the
emergency switchboard side from the main switchboard side.
When power from the main switchboard returns normally while power is being supplied to the
emergency load from the emergency generator, the relay (J1F) will operate to change the bus
control contactor (MD) to the main switchboard side from the emergency generator side.
Since the emergency generator engine is not stopped automatically, press the EMERGENCY
GENERATOR ENGINE STOP pushbutton (PB11) to operate the ENGINE STOP relay, and this
will energize the ENGINE STOP solenoid valve for about 25 seconds, stopping the engine.
Note
The bus control contactor (MD) can be manually changed over using the manual operating
lever. Therefore, if automatic changeover cannot be normally attained, open the door of the
emergency switchboard, change over the bus control contactor (MD).
Operations of the automatic changeover circuit to the emergency generator can be test by setting
the EMERG. SOURCE TEST switch (SWT) provided inside the emergency switchboard, at
“TEST” from “NOR.” at the emergency generator AUTO ST-BY mode.
Upon completing the test, be sure to return the EMERG. SOURCE TEST switch (SWT) to
“NOR.” from “TEST”. Then, stop the emergency generator engine.
The automatic stop circuit of the emergency generator engine normally does not operate, and
allows the engine to continue to run even when an alarm occurs. However, this circuit is used
to prevent an engine failure that may occur during test run of the engine.
