FINAL TERM PROJECT – GROUP FOUR

NARRATIVE

THE SUBJECT

“MEDUSA”

Medusa, a human woman with a writhing mass of snake instead of hair. She is known for having the ability of
turning anyone who looks into her eyes into stone or a lifeless statue.

Medusa myths is one of the oldest and most popular tales from Greek Mythology. Our group were captivated to
her legend that it inspired us to use her as our subject. We are very familiar with her figure since we have already
encountered it in movies, books, and stories. Just like other feminists in the 20th and 21st centuries, we view her
as a symbol of female anger, but also of female empowerment.

One of the reasons why we choose Medusa as our subject is because of the suggestion of our professor. He
suggested that there should be a deep reason for our chosen subject and he mentioned about the viral scam of a
group of hackers called Medusa. This idea caught our attention since it is very relevant and controversial. It
became a big issue this year how the Medusa ransomware group attack the PhilHealth, compromising and
exposing sensitive data online. The exposure of these sensitive data poses a risks and cause bigger problems like
identity theft and fraud. This issue emphasize the need for all the government agencies to enhance their security
in all aspects.
THE MATERIALS
THE PROCESS

DAY ONE - November 3,2033

Friday 7:00 AM-5:00 PM

We have decided to start making the project after we finished buying all the materials needed. The initial plan
was to create a 3D painting of Medusa in a canvas using plaster of paris. It is our first time using this kind of
material. We are not familiar with this material, so we have done some research and inquiries. According to
Britannica, plaster of paris is a quick-setting gypsum plaster consisting of a fine white powder, which hardens
when moistened and allowed to dry. We also watched some videos on how to use it. It is a good thing that there
are some tutorials on the internet that help us. In addition, we also asked questions to our professor.

Although it was our first time using plaster of paris, we got off to a good start. We were enjoying it. However, we
noticed that the result does not correspond to what we want to happen. Molding the body part of Medusa was
easy but we struggled a lot in molding her face. It is not accurate to the sketch that we have done. The process
also took a long time because there is a lot to do when using plaster of paris. Even when we are starting to
doubts our works, we still continue it because we believe in the saying “Trust the process”. We only finished the
base part of Medusa that day. We decided to continue it on the other day, but when we went home, the clay
cracked and some parts are destroyed.

DAY TWO - November 12,2023

Sunday 7:00 AM-5:00 PM

We informed our professor that we are going to change the medium of our project. Instead of 3D painting, we
decided to create a painting in an acrylic glass. We will be also using acrylic paints and sharpie marker. We
completed first the necessary materials. We had a hard time looking for some of it since it is urgent. When we
finished buying all the materials, we decided to meet again to start creating the artwork.
It is quite hard to start all over again, but we enjoyed all the process. We research first for some inspiration of
our subject. We printed it so it will be easier for us to draw it in the acrylic glass. Every members help in paining
it. When we saw that there are improvement, we can’t help but feel motivated.

DAY THREE - November 24, 2023

Friday 7:00 AM-5:00 PM

We concentrated on enhancing details we had begun, such as exactly creating the skin tone and adding detailed
touches to the snake twirling through her hair. Each team member's combined effort ensured a balanced color
combination. We were increasingly careful in selecting the proper colors in our attempt of perfection, ensuring
that every stroke reflected the spirit of our vision. The background was also given considerable consideration.
Despite being tempted by several scenery possibilities, we ultimately chose a basic color - a delicate canvas that
underlined Medusa's interesting presence.

Our desire was fueled by our committed exploration for inspiration and our common dedication to improvement.
We couldn't stop seeing the project expand with each new layer added. Our motivation was created by our
shared commitment to improvement and our careful search for inspiration. We couldn't help but feel a sense of
success and excitement for the creative journey we were starting upon as we watched the project change with
each new layer added.
