KABATAAN CATECHISM SESSION: THE COMMANDMENTS – 10th Commandment

Learning Objectives:

 To let the girls be familiarized with the 10th Commandment : Thou shalt not covet
your neighbor’s goods

COMMANDS:
1. Be grateful for your possessions

2. Spirit of Poverty (Matthew 5: 3;6: 33) - Never let the use of worldly things
or our greed hinder our pursuit for charity

3. To give up everything and follow Jesus (Luke 18: 18-22) - Jesus calls US to
give up those things that prevent us from doing the work of peace, justice,
and service to others

FORBIDS:

1. Avarice - Never let the use of worldly things or our greed hinder our
pursuit for charity.

2. Envy - It refers to the sadness at the sight of another's goods and the
immoderate desire to acquire them for oneself, even unjustly. Envy at
another person’s success. Envy represents a form of sadness and
therefore a refusal of charity.

VALUES:

1. Respect – implies to know and to feel that we should not use what is not ours. It is
ALSO knowing how to appreciate, to recognize and to take care of the work of
others.
2. Charity - means generosity and helpfulness especially toward the needy or
suffering.
3. To be disciples of Christ:
Disciple - A person who is a pupil of another; One who embraces and assists in
spreading the teaching of another. Any follower of another person.
To be disciples of Christ means that we are not only called to learn the teachings of
Jesus Christ, we are also called to live them.
The defining trait of any disciple is faith. Faith in God will give us the power to
become disciples, and to make more disciples by leading others to faith.
