Write or describe the traditional way of teaching

Teacher center approach

- In the teacher-centered approach, teacher is a focus of a classroom

They, in their turn, implement lessons, create teaching materials; plan, organize, and measure
student improvements. Among the primary duties of a teacher is that of dinner party gossip rather
than teaching the actual lessons to the pupils. This is done through lectures, presentations and
demonstrations that guide students on how to teach. It also makes room for the transfer of skills
and knowledge shared by the teacher. In most cases, the teacher creates classroom discussions by
asking questions and steering the conversation thus presenting information, giving clarifications
where needed. The teacher might steer the conversation, questions might be asked by the teacher,
or students might ask questions, however, the content and the manner of the conversation are
controlled by the teacher. The teacher is he who occupies the place of power in the classroom and
he has the right to judge and evaluate the students. People do not only act to show respect to the
leader, but any time also he is honorable.

Student centered approach

- The student-centered approach of teaching puts the student at the center of the educational process
and stresses the importance of the student`s needs, interests, and active participation in the learning
process. In the case of this method, teachers act in a lab role providing students with platforms for
making their own exploratory journeys and for realizing knowledge. Inquiry-based learning,
coalescence activities, and do-it-yourself experiments are the focuses which aim at developing
students’ critical thinking, problem solving and creativity. Learning is tailored to accommodate
different learning styles and preferences. Teaching is made student-centered. They are encouraged
to take control of the learning process through self-directed learning activities, reflection and goal
setting. Assessment in a student-centered classroom usually takes various forms, like projects,
portfolios, and peer evaluations, which put the emphasis on understanding and appropriating
knowledge that can be used in life, not simply on memorization. Overall, the goal of the student-
centered approach is to create a supportive and dynamic classroom, in which the students are
motivated and collaborative and they are prepared to become lifelong learners.
