Guidelines for the Creative Writing Competition: "Whispers of the Forgotten"

1. Theme: All submissions must adhere to the theme "Whispers of the Forgotten." Participants
are encouraged to explore the concept of forgotten memories, untold stories, hidden histories, or
any other interpretation of the theme that sparks their creativity.

2. Eligibility: The competition is open to all UWI Global Campus students across all disciplines
and levels of study.

3. Genre: Participants are free to choose any genre for their submissions, including but not
limited to fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, or experimental writing.

4. Originality: Submissions must be original works created by the participant. Plagiarism will
result in disqualification.

5. Length: There are no strict limitations on word count, but submissions should be concise and
well-crafted. As a general guideline, prose submissions should not exceed 3,000 words, and
poetry submissions should be no longer than two pages.

6. Format: All submissions must be typed and formatted in a legible font (e.g., Times New
Roman, Arial) with 12-point font size and double-spaced lines. Submissions should be saved in a
commonly used file format such as .doc, .docx, or .pdf.

8. Submission Deadline: The deadline for submitting entries is Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
Late submissions will not be accepted.

9. Submission Process: Participants should email their entries to guild.students@open.uwi.edu


with the subject line: "Creative Writing Competition Submission - Your Name." In the body of
the email, include your full name, student ID number, program of study, and contact information.

10. Judging Criteria: Entries will be evaluated based on creativity, originality, adherence to the
theme, language proficiency, and overall impact. A panel of judges composed of faculty
members and writing experts will review all submissions anonymously.
11. Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to the top three winners of the competition.

First Place - $150 USD Credited to Student Account


Second Place - $100 USD Credited to Student Account
Third Place - $75 USD Credited to Student Account

12. Announcement of Winners: The winner of the competition will be officially announced on
Friday, February 23, 2024, through email and on the UWI Global Campus website.

13. Publication Rights: By submitting their work, participants grant permission for UWI Global
Campus to publish their entries (with proper attribution) for promotional and educational
purposes related to the competition.
