CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, research locale, research

participants, research instruments, data gathering procedures, statistical treatment, and

ethical considerations.

Research Design

The researchers will use the correlational design to assess the relationship of

daily reading habits and vocabulary learning strategies among Grade 12 HUMSS

students. This study will utilize the total population of the HUMSS strand, offering

valuable insights into the factors influencing vocabulary learning strategies of

HUMSS students within the context of Agusan National High School.

Research Locale

The study will be conducted on the campus of Agusan National High School

Senior High School, Butuan City. The respondents will be asked to answer the

questionnaires face-to-face in their respective classrooms. The researchers chose the

location because it will provide the needed information the researchers seek about the

the relationship of daily reading habits and vocabulary learning strategies in HUMSS

students.

Research Participants

The respondents of the study are the grade 12 HUMSS students of Agusan

National High School. The students are the main participants in conducting this study

to identify the relationship of daily reading habits and vocabulary learning strategies.

The researchers used Slovin's formula to modify the number of participants or the

sample size. The final sample size substantially smaller sample size is 286

respondents. These participants are selected randomly according to the design survey

procedure.

Research Instruments

The study used a printed questionnaire about the relationship of daily reading

habits and vocabulary learning strategies. To assess the relationship of daily reading

habits and vocabulary learning strategies, students must also fill out the survey

questionnaire with their first-grade general average. The questionnaire's upper section

asks for the participant's name (optional), and section. This survey was designed to

gather all the information required for this investigation.

Data Gathering Procedures

The researchers will undergo three phases of data gathering procedures

namely, preliminaries, actual data collection, and data management.

Preliminaries. The creation of the survey questionnaire and other survey-

related requirements.

Actual Data Collection. The researchers personally conduct the research

survey, facilitated, and collected by the researchers which will be taking place in the

area where the study is being conducted.

Data Management. The researchers support the collection of the data while

keeping it contained inside the envelope and processing it in accordance with

appropriate ethical standards

Statistical Treatment

To facilitate the statistical treatment of the data, some statistical tools will be

used by the researchers.

1. Frequency. The number of respondents (286) in grade 12 HUMSS students

of Agusan National High School.

2. Weighted Mean. During the actual data collection process, this statistical

tool will be utilized to calculate the weight of the responses in the questionnaire given

by the respondents.

3. Pearson’s Correlation Coefficients. This will be used to test the

correlation between the two variables involved in the study.

Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient Formula:

n ∑ xy − ∑ x ∑ y
r=
√ [n ∑ x ² −(∑ x)²][n ∑ y ² −(∑ y )² ]
