DWV system - In modern plumbing, a drain-waste-vent is a system that allows air to enter the

plumbing system to maintain proper air pressure to enable the removal of sewage and greywater from
a dwelling. Drain refers to water produced at fixtures such as sinks, and showers; waste refers to water
from toilets.

P – trap - In plumbing, a trap is a U-shaped portion of pipe designed to trap liquid or gas to prevent
unwanted flow; most notably sewer gases from entering buildings while allowing waste materials to
pass through.

Siphonage – the transfer of lquid from one container to the next.

Plumbing Stack - A plumbing stack, also called a plumbing vent or a vent stack, is a long, vertical
pipe extending out of your roof that directs wastewater from all the fixtures in your home to a
municipal or private sewer system.

Test tee – lets you check for leaks or blockages

Backpressure Backflow - What is backpressure? Backpressure occurs when the downstream

water pressure is greater than the water supply pressure. This can occur in any
pressurized system such as chemical feed pumps, boilers, elevated tanks, or recirculating
systems.

Double Trapping - Double Trapping is usually done as a temporary measure, where a

“master trap” is installed on a condensate line with a multitude of traps failing further
upstream. In some cases, it may be that a second trap is installed immediately
downstream of another trap as a kind of back-up to the first trap.

Cleanout - A plumbing cleanout is an access point installed on a drainage line for the
purpose of accessing that line with drain cleaning equipment. Most houses have them on
their drain lines. The problem is that, quite often, they are not really as “accessible” as
you would think.

Weir - The weir is the upper bend of the p-trap in which the water would start to spill into
the wall tube. With every use of the fixture, new wastewater flushes through the p-trap,
replacing the old water in the curve with fresh water. The p-trap also collects debris and
solids from entering your drainage system.

Vent Branch - A vent connecting one or more individual vents with a vent stack or stack vent.
