DWV System
DWV System
plumbing system to maintain proper air pressure to enable the removal of sewage and greywater from
a dwelling. Drain refers to water produced at fixtures such as sinks, and showers; waste refers to water
from toilets.
P – trap - In plumbing, a trap is a U-shaped portion of pipe designed to trap liquid or gas to prevent
unwanted flow; most notably sewer gases from entering buildings while allowing waste materials to
pass through.
Plumbing Stack - A plumbing stack, also called a plumbing vent or a vent stack, is a long, vertical
pipe extending out of your roof that directs wastewater from all the fixtures in your home to a
municipal or private sewer system.
Cleanout - A plumbing cleanout is an access point installed on a drainage line for the
purpose of accessing that line with drain cleaning equipment. Most houses have them on
their drain lines. The problem is that, quite often, they are not really as “accessible” as
you would think.
Weir - The weir is the upper bend of the p-trap in which the water would start to spill into
the wall tube. With every use of the fixture, new wastewater flushes through the p-trap,
replacing the old water in the curve with fresh water. The p-trap also collects debris and
solids from entering your drainage system.
Vent Branch - A vent connecting one or more individual vents with a vent stack or stack vent.
