What happened?The Battle of the Bulge was the last major German military offensive in western Europe. The German
offensive in the Ardennes region of Belgium was only temporarily successful in halting the Allied advance. During the fighting,
captured American soldiers and Belgian prisoners were murdered by Waffen SS units.

When did the Battle start and end?The Battle of the Bulge was Adolf Hitler's last major offensive in World War II against the
Western Front. Lasting six brutal weeks, from December 16, 1944, to January 25, 1945, the assault took place during frigid
weather conditions.

Why did the battle of the bulge happen ?Hitler hoped that the German counter-attack would surround the British and American
armies and stall the Allied offensive against Germany.

The Battle of the Bulge marked the last German offense on the Western Front. The catastrophic losses on the German side
prevented Germany from resisting the advance of Allied forces following the Normandy Invasion. Less than four months after
the end of the Battle of the Bulge, Germany surrendered to Allied forces.
