CRITERIA:
1. Allowable tolerance on weld capping and root pass is observed in conformity with the welding code and
standard for:
▪ leg size
▪ reinforcement weld
▪ under fill
▪ porosities
▪ undercut
▪ weld cracks
▪ cold laps
2. Uniformity of bead ripples is observed in accordance with welding standard.
3. Weld beads are deposited in conformity with welding standard.
4. Finished weldment is performed based on acceptable welding standards for:

spatters
•
slag
•
uniformity of beads
•
under cut
•
crack
•
under fill

SUMMARY OF LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Upon completion of this module the student must be able to: LO1. Weld carbon
steel plates in flat position (1G)
LO2. Weld carbon steel plates in horizontal position (2G) LO3. Weld carbon
steel plates in vertical position (3G)
LO1: WELD CARBON STEEL PLATES IN FLAT POSITION (1G)
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Weldment sides are maintained free from defects and discontinuity.
2. Weld appearance of not greater than 2mm side lap weld deposits is observed in welding layer weld for
1G.
3. Weld appearance of not greater than 3.25 mm weld reinforcement is maintained in welding 1G.
4. Work angle 90° and travel angle 20° - 25° are observed.

3. Weld appearance of not greater than 3.25mm weld reinforcement is maintained in
welding 3G.
4. Work angle of 90° and travel angle of 10° - 15° are observed.
Note: Vertical Downward-30°
