WARNING and CAUTION messages must be observed. To avoid the possibility of injury,
observe the following precautions during the operation of the instrument.

WARNING
1 FTS-6 must be serviced by authorized and qualified personnel only. EDAN do not
accept responsibility for safety compliance, reliability and performance if
modifications or repairs are carried out by unauthorized personnel. Identical
replacement parts must be used.
2 The service personnel should be familiar with the operation of this system. Refer to
User Manual of the system for details.
3 EXPLOSION HAZARD - Do not use the system in the presence of flammable
anesthetics or other materials.
4 SHOCK HAZARD - the power receptacle must be a three-wire grounded outlet.
Never try to adapt the three-prong plug to fit a two-slot outlet. A hospital grade outlet
is required. If the outlet has only two slots, make sure that it is replaced with a
three-slot grounded outlet before attempting to operate the system.
5 Any non-medical equipment (such as the external printer) is not allowed to be used
within the patient vicinity (1.5m/6ft.).
6 Do not use the additional multiple portable socket-outlet or extension cord in the
medical electrical system, unless it’s specified as part of the system by manufacturer.
And the multiple portable socket-outlets provided with the system shall only be used
for supplying power to equipment which is intended to form part of the system.
7 If multiple instruments are connected to a patient, the sum of the leakage currents
may exceed the limits given in the IEC/EN 60601-1 and may pose a safety hazard.
Consult your service personnel.
8 Multiple portable socket-outlets shall not be placed on the floor.
9 Make sure that the power is turned off and the power cord is disconnected from the
AC socket before connecting or disconnecting equipment. Otherwise, the patient or
operator may receive electrical shock or other injury.
10 Do not connect any equipment or accessories that are not approved by the

60601-1-1. Anybody who connects additional equipment to the signal input connector
or signal output connector to configure a medical system must ensure that the system
complies with the requirements of the valid version of the system standard IEC/EN
60601-1-1. If in doubt, consult our technical service department or your local
distributor.
24 Parts and accessories used must meet the requirements of the applicable IEC 601
series safety standards, and/or the system configuration must meet the requirements
of the IEC 60601-1-1 medical electrical systems standard.
25 Connect the grounding wire to the equipotential grounding terminal in the main
system. If it is not evident from the instrument specifications whether a particular
instrument combination is hazardous or not, for example due to summation of
leakage currents, you should consult the manufacturer or an expert in the field, to
ensure that the necessary safety of all instruments concerned will not be impaired by
the proposed combination.

51
FTS-6 Central Monitoring System Service Manual Principle Introduction

Chapter 8 Principle Introduction

8.1 System Structure
The whole system can be divided to two application forms: trolley application and remote
application. The trolley application consists of workstation, wireless transducers, F series fetal
monitor and the remote application consists of wireless transducer charger stand, wireless
transducers, mobile phone, APP and cloud server.
The trolley of the workstation is used to put wireless transducers and PC and so on which is
convenient for users to move. It can monitor several beds at the same time and support multiple
loudspeakers playing fetal heart beat sounds captured by different transducers, displaying and
saving all parameters, traces and alarm information, automatic analysis, CTG analysis and
printing. The expanded function of workstation supports the connection of traditional fetal
monitors.
The wireless transducers collect physiological parameters of patient and send to workstation
through WIFI. During the monitoring, the wireless transducers are fixed on the body of the
patients and stored on the board when being charged.

There are two kinds of wireless transducers: US transducer and TOCO transducer and AFM
function is realized within US transducer. The US transducer adopts ultrasound Doppler principle
to measure FHR and the TOCO transducer adopts pressure sensor to measure uterine contraction
of patient. The monitoring data will be uploaded to workstation through WIFI and the audio data
can be uploaded to main board.
The workstation consists of trolley, micro computer, workstation software and wireless AP
module. It receives FHR numerics, TOCO numerics and AFM conditions sent by transducers
through WIFI and then displays them and conducts data analysis and treatment.
The trolley is configured with 15 transducer docking slots. 1 US transducer and 1 TOCO
transducer constitute singleton monitoring unit; 2 US transducers and 1 TOCO transducer
constitute twins monitoring unit; 3 US transducers and 1 TOCO transducer constitute triplets
monitoring unit. Wireless transducers can be centralized on the trolley and it's designed to
support at most 8 monitoring units and monitor 8 patients simultaneously.
Besides, the workstation supports at least 4 to 8 F series fetal monitors' connection through
WIFI.
The transducer management unit on the trolley is used for power supply, transducer
configuration, audio play and it receives FHR audio data from working US transducer through
WIFI and connects with transducers in the docking slots and micro computer through wired
communication.
The system signal flow chart is shown in figure 7-5.

8.3 Technology Characteristics

1) Integrated trolley configured with medical all-in-one PC.
2) Multi-bed intensive monitoring.
 2.4G wireless WIFI frequency band, distance of distinct vision≥20m
 FTS-6 (standard configuration) is configured with 4 singleton monitoring sub-windows,
4 wireless US transducers+4 wireless TOCO transducers, supporting at most 15 wireless
transducers and 8 beds ( US transducers and TOCO transducers can be configured freely)
 Display at most 12 sub-windows. F series fetal monitors can be connected to FTS-6
through WIFI. The combination of fetal monitors+wireless transducers can monitor at most 12
beds(sub-window≤ 8, displayed on the first screen; sub-window> 8, displayed on the second
screen and the first screen will display sub-windows of wireless device preferentially.
3) Professional fetal heart algorithm:
 Accuracy:Domestic fetal heart algorithm gold standard
 Anti-interference: Patented frequency multiplication analysis technology eliminates the
effect on signal from aperiodic and periodic noise through autocorrelated data after envelope
analysis and multiple-frequency analysis, calculating FHR more accurately and improving the
anti-interference ability of algorithm.
 Less signal loss:Smoothing algorithm which can also be called algorithm with less
58

signal loss, helping medical workers improve their work efficiency.

4) High-performance wireless transducer:
 1MHz ultrasonic rate, 12 crystals wide beam ultrasonic transducer
 The transducer supports locating searching
 Fetal heart signal intensity indication function
 IPX8 water proof degree
 Patient's name can be displayed on transducer interface
 Transducer duration≥8h
 Distance of distinct vision≥20m

8.4 Function Characteristics

1) Intense Operation:360 degree rotatable table-board, transducers can be taken and used
freely and US transducers and TOCO transducers can be configured freely which revolutionizes
the traditional monitoring modes and simplifies the workflow of medical workers and enhances
their work efficiency.
2) Support singleton/twins/triplets monitoring: provides monitoring mainly aimed at fetal
and multiple monitoring functions, such as FHR, TOCO, AFM and supports
singleton/twins/triplets monitoring.
3) Flexible Transducer Binding Modes
 Automatic Binding(Suggest)
If a transducer is figured with automatic binding mode, you can select a sub-window for the
transducer before monitoring, or the system will automatically allocate one for it. Transducer
information and monitoring data will be displayed on the bound window. When the transducer is
docked back, the binding will be terminated automatically.
 Manual Binding
If a transducer is figured with manual binding mode, the service engineers have already
bound the transducer to a specific sub-window. When the transducer is taken up from the docking
slot, transducer information and monitoring data will be displayed on the bound sub-window.
4) SOV Alarm (Fetal)
 Signal Overlap Verification(SOV)
When monitoring twins or triplets, the monitored heart beat signals may overlap at any time
and an FHR’s signal may be mistaken for the other’s or another one’s signal. The system
provides signals overlap verification (SOV) function to reduce these possibilities.
In the process of monitoring, if the SOV detects signals overlapping, an alarm message
“Signals Overlap (FHR1, FHR2)”, “Signals Overlap (FHR1, FHR3)” or “Signals Overlap (FHR2,
FHR3)” will appear on the screen to warn you. Check of the patient and reposition of transducers
might be needed.
 SOV Alarm(Maternal) (F6E/F9E connects to FTS-6)

59
FTS-6 Central Monitoring System Service Manual Principle Introduction

The signals overlap verification (SOV) function helps to detect signals overlapping and
reduce the risks of "monitoring" stillbirth to the least.
5) Multiple fetal monitoring interpretation functions can be chosen
Support four interpretation standards NST/ Improved Fischer / Fischer/KREBS, NICHD
guide, CTG interpretation and so on.
6) Connect to Informationized System of Hospital
Provide HL7 standard interface, which realizes the data exchange between the workstation
and hospital HIS/EMR, adapting to the informatization management requirement of hospital.
7) Synchronize Cloud Data
The cloud data window displays the remote monitoring data (FTS-6 Mobile) on the cloud
server automatically. The mobile phone receives data of wireless transducers and uploads to the
cloud, making up the obstetric remote fetal monitor. Doctor can download data from the software
of the central station that supports cloud and do analysis and printing.

Matters need attention when using :

1) The iron ball needs to be immerged in the water during the whole motor process.

2) When FS-3 is not used, take off the attenuation plate and clean it with water and then dry
it. Please be careful when cleaning and wiping and don't damage the surface of the attenuation

3) Wipe off the coupling gel of the contact surface of bottom of the water sink and the
attenuation plate with gauze. Please be careful in case of breaking the polyester film on the
bottom of the water sink.

4) When replacing water for the water sink, please clean the interior of the water sink. Be
careful when replacing water and cleaning in case of breaking the polyester film on the bottom of
the water sink. Replace the water every 2 to 3 days.

5) Instructions for attenuation plate: Every FS-3 is configured with six attenuation plate
with different thickness and can't be exchanged with other FS-3. Clean the attenuation plate each
time when finishing using it ( the attenuation plate will be corroded by coupling gel if putting it
on the bottom of the water sink for a long time, which will affect the measurement accuracy).
The thickness of the attenuation plate is basically the same with its number( for example, the
thickness for 3# attenuation plate is 3mm) except the 6# attenuation plate, which is 10mm thick.
