7 reasons why we have to learn Literature;

1. Cultural Understanding: Literature provides a window into the cultures, traditions, and values of
different societies. By immersing oneself in literature, one can gain a deeper understanding of
diverse human experiences and ways of life. This promotes cultural empathy and broadens one's
horizons.
2. Literature embodies the values of imagination, identification and empathy. These matter in an
increasingly divisive world.
3. Studying literature also fosters higher order thinking skills, through analyzing themes, characters,
symbols, motif etc.
4. History and literature are entwined with each other. History is about people who are products of
their time, with their own lives.Without literature, we would not know about our past, our
families, the people who came before and walked on the same ground as us
5. Study literature develops critical thinking skills : Literature teaches logical thinking because it
requires readers not only to understand what's happening in the story but also to explain why
the events happened the way they did.
6. It promotes empathy and understanding for others: Literature promotes empathy and
understanding of others by encouraging us to understand the human condition. Reading
literature allows us to learn about other cultures and customs by confronting the characters in a
story with different situations that are foreign to us, but familiar enough that we can identify and
empathize with the characters.
7. Historical Context: Historical literature provides a firsthand account of events, sentiments, and
social conditions of past eras. It offers a more intimate and nuanced understanding of history
than traditional textbooks, allowing readers to feel the emotions and motivations of people from
different times.
