Spin Speed Makeup Lab

https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/legacy/rotation

1. Stay on Intro, check the Ruler, change Angular Velocity to 180.

2. Pause the simulation, then move the ruler so that 0 is at the center of the spinning platform.

3. Put the Ladybug at a radius (distance from center) of 1m.

4. Start the simulation again. Observe how long the green velocity vector is. Using your own stopwatch, record

the time it takes the ladybug to make 1 full revolution (1 time around the circle).

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4, but increase the radius by 1m each time. You should have times for 1m, 2m, 3m, and 4m

when you are all done.

6. Calculate the speed of the ladybug for each radius. You can assume the distance is the circumference of the

circle that it travels in, and the time is what you measured.

7. Make a Speed VS Radius graph with your 4 points.

8. What happens to the speed of the ladybug as it gets closer to the edge of the platform?
