ASSEMBLING A BASIC WARDROBE

CLEAN UP YOUR CLOSET

• Get rid of ‘if only items’. These are items that you could wear “if only I were thinner, if only it were not
out of style etc…
• Hang together that goes together. Arrange blouses from the lightest shades to the darkest. The same
goes for skirts, pants and dresses. Keep evening wear separate.
• You start on your shopping trip.

KNOW YOUR FIGURE

• Look yourself over in front of a full length mirror, do you have a short figure, a thin frame, small bones,
large bones are you tall, fat short, slim?- know your type before

SHOP WISELY
• Take your budget into consideration. Buy clothes that you will often use.

YOUR CLOSET
• Your closet should be a set up exactly like a fine shop.
• Shirts, shorts, or pants, sweaters, underwear should be grouped together.
• Colors should be arranged to spark your imagination.
• Shoes should be stored in marked boxes at eye level for quick selection.

• Keep a keen sense of appropriateness not only to the occasion but also to your figure, lifestyle and age.

SHOPPING TRAPS TO AVOID

1. Think twice before shopping with a friend. A friend is a distraction and may keep you from focusing on
what you came for.
2. A friend’s taste and aims may be different from yours.
3. A friend may choose clothes which he/she would choose for himself/herself, but not appropriate for you.
4. Avoid shopping out of loneliness. Bake a cake or take up some sport instead. Shopping for the wrong
reasons brings out wrong result.
5. Don’t shop for bargains. Don’t judge merchandise by its price tag.

LINE CLOTHES
• The ideal look is the slim look. Your choice of clothes then should be aimed at achieving this look. An
imperfect figure can be given an illusion of slimness by choice of the proper clothes.

THE VERTICAL LINE

• it creates an illusion of height and makes a person look taller, it is ideal for a plump person.
THE HORIZONTAL LINE
• it cuts height and adds width.

Accessories
An accessory is almost anything you wear except the basic clothes, shoes, hats, gloves, belts, scarfs,
eyeglasses, bags, and jewelry.

Rules for Accessories

• Moderation is the key. Never over decorate your body.
• Your accessories should be appropriate to the occasion, your age and to the company in which they
work.
• Be certain that you do not rattle when you move
• Day and night call for different accessories
• Avoid ostentation
• After you have it all together, take a final glance in the mirror.

HOW TO DRESS WELL

1. Dress comfortably. If you are uncomfortable, people can tell, and it makes you less attractive. You
might think those skinny jeans look smashing on you, but if they cut off the circulation in your legs
because they're actually girls' jeans, it's probably not something you should be wearing.
2. Don't wear athletic clothing unless you're doing athletics. It may be easy and comfortable to wear
sweatpants, a baggy t-shirt, and running shoes, but this makes you look lazy and unkempt.
3. Dress for the occasion. If it is a formal occasion, wear a pressed button-front shirt, a tie, jacket,
trousers, belt, nice socks and clean, attractive shoes. Don't wear jeans and a t-shirt. If it is a non-formal
occasion (such as school), don't wear slacks. You will look out of place and people won't want to go up
to you.
4. Make sure whatever you wear fits properly and looks good on you. The fit is the most important
aspect of any article of clothing. No matter how cool the style is, if it doesn't fit you, do not wear it.
5. Never leave your house wearing something you would not want to be seen in on television. You
never know who will see you, and you should always strive to make the best impression. You never
know when you will run into the woman of your dreams, a potential employer, or a local news crew
looking to do a story on your life.
6. Wear jewelry sparingly.
7. Accessorize your shoes.
