Delegate Name: Shenna Quingco

School: Consolacion National High School-EC Senior High

Country: Republic of the Philippines
Committee: Commission on Higher Education
Topic: Scholarship Program

The CHED should not only depend on the qualification of the students based on their GWA to
be part of the scholarship program. There are a lot of filipino students from low income earners
that are even more worthy of receiving a partial assistance for their studies. The projected
attrition rate or the number of students who dropped out in universities and colleges on the
previous school year is currently at 40.98 percent because of inability to afford the tuition.

With tuition rates in the country constantly on the rise, many people view a good educational
background as a luxury. Because of expensive enrollment fees, the high cost of schooling puts
students from low income family in a tough spot, forcing a lot of students to stop school or find
work while studying to pay their school fees and other daily expenses, working students need to
sacrifice some of their study time to pay off their dues. Since they may be spending more time
at work than at their study table, their grades may be more prone to slip.

One of the most significant benefits of providing scholarship for college students is how it allows
them to focus on their academics without worrying about their school finances. This way, they
will be more motivated to study and they are given to pursue extra-curricular activities that can
help them develop their skills and other interest. This also lets educational institutions
experience better retention rates and improved rankings during assessment periods since
students are more engaged in learning.

Funding more scholarships, grants and students loan programs to benefit poor and deserving
college students is a better way to reduce the risk of dropping out and reducing financial
concern.
