A mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too

harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing is called
EUPHEMISM

The deliberate or polite use of pleasant or neutral words or expression to avoid
the emotional implications of a plain term (blunt/offensive/harsh) as ‘passed
away’ for ‘dead’
Similarly ‘professional foul’ is just a euphemism for cheating.

Euphemism Practice

dad that you are “very social” they are really saying you “talk too much”.
