 Activity 2
Instruction: Interpret the different saying of media in your own words. (20 points each)
A. The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent
guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of
the masses.
As the wise men of olden times says, “Information is power”, having control over information is
indeed a powerful ability to have. Media can control the flow information thus they have the ability to
manipulate that “information” to their whim. They can report the truth or twist it and feed false
information to the masses.
B. The media transforms the great silence of things into its opposite. Formerly constituting a
secret, the real now talks constantly. News reports, information, statistics, and surveys are
everywhere.
As media have access to information distribution easily, they can spread the news more efficiently.
They can also gather information much more effectively by using various sources at their disposal,
thus no secret information is really a secret anymore when you can gather them easily.
C. What the mass media offers is not popular art, but entertainment which is intended to be
consumed like food, forgotten, and replaced by a new dish.
While art is the expression of human creative skill and imagination, entertainment just gives you
predictable pleasure. They do not lead you to transformation or awakening, they just satisfy your
craving.
D. All of us who professionally use the mass media are the shapers of society. We can vulgarize
that society. We can brutalize it. Or we can help lift it onto a higher level.
As we can manipulate information thru mass media, we have the power to shape the society as we
see. We can disseminate false information to led society into its downfall and let chaos run, or we can
be vigilant and fight for the truth and justice by spreading the correct information to the masses.
E. The media represents world that is more real than reality that we can experience. People lose
the ability to distinguish between reality and fantasy. They also begin to engage with fantasy
without realizing what it really is. They seek happiness and fulfillment through the simulacra
of reality, e.g. media and avoid the contact/interaction with the real world.
People are stupid. Anyone will believe almost anything. They will believe a lie because they want to
believe it’s true or because they are afraid it might be true. As media offers a readily available “truth”,
they absorb it without checking if the “truth” are facts or just fiction.
 Activity 3
Kindly answer the following in your own words.

1. As a user of social media, how can you prevent the threats, risks, abuses and misuses of social
networking sites?
By cross-checking the facts with other sources and dig deeper to find if the information is reliable
before speaking my mind. By doing so we contribute to the elimination of false information
propagation which is the most dangerous element on social media as far as I know.
2. If you were able to choose, whether to live to the North Korea where social media is controlled
by the government or live in the Philippines where social media are everywhere, cyberbullying is
very common and the government has a limited controlled for the usage of internet? Why and
why not? Elaborate your answer.
I will choose Philippines still because we still retain the most important gift God has given us. The
freedom to choose. We can choose to squander the gifts and freedom God has given us and be part of
the negativity on social media or we can be vigilant and help others fight the good fight. Stand for
what is right and just. We can let the Government handle and control the usage of internet or we can
stand on our own and start the censor within ourselves. In the end, we can choose what paths we walk
and that is enough for me to choose Philippines.
