The United Nations Peacekeepers: Re-enacting their Roles, Responsibilities, and Challenges

THINGS YOU NEED TO PREPARE FOR THE MISSION

PASANTING Pick a group of people who know how to help in tough situations,
like solving problems, helping people who are hurt, and
understanding different cultures.

UDASAN Provide personnel with specific training in conflict resolution and

negotiation so they can settle conflicts between stakeholders in an
effective way.

MOCA • Prioritize comprehensive training in peacekeeping protocols,

conflict resolution, first aid, and cultural awareness. This ensures a
thorough awareness of the obligations and obstacles faced by UN
peacekeepers, allowing for a more realistic and effective
re-enactment.
• Conduct extensive research on the mission context, geopolitical
dynamics, and historical history of the peacekeeping operation. This
understanding will improve the authenticity of presenting the
obstacles faced by UN Peacekeepers, resulting in a more accurate
re-enactment.

ROSIL It should focus solely on what is most important to the organization.

It should be simple, clear, informative, and straightforward. A
dedication to preserving or restoring global peace and security.
They all want to safeguard the most vulnerable people and help
countries move from violence to peace.

CAWAYAN Make friends with both countries A and B and talk to the leaders of
the community. It's important to listen to what everyone has to say
and build trust.

BERESO Find out a lot about the area where the fighting is happening. Know
its history, what the people are like, and what's causing the fighting.

DUHAYLUNGSOD Acquire knowledge of the geographical, historical, and cultural

factors particular to the mission area. This includes being
conversant with the languages, traditions, as well as potential points
of conflict in the area.

JERUELA
Develop an understanding of the cultural, religious, and social
norms in the mission area to facilitate effective interaction with local
communities and build trust and cooperation.

MEASURES YOU HAVE TO TAKE TO KEEP THE PEACE

PASANTING Help the community heal from the past by encouraging forgiveness
and understanding among different groups. Support initiatives that
bring people together and promote unity.

UDASAN Encourage communication with the community, understanding their

needs, and include them in the process of bringing about peace.

MOCA • Ensuring strict compliance with the established Rules of

Engagement (ROE) to prevent escalation of conflicts and promote
the safety of both peacekeepers and local populations. This
involves understanding and following guidelines for the use of force,
self-defense, and conflict resolution
• Providing thorough training in cross-cultural communication and
understanding to effectively navigate diverse and sensitive
situations. This includes awareness of local customs, traditions, and
languages to foster positive relationships with the communities
being served and minimize misunderstandings.

ROSIL The tasks and responsibilities of peacekeepers are changing as

mandates become increasingly challenging and complex.
Peacekeeping missions have evolved from simply preserving
human rights to promoting the rule of law and much more.

CAWAYAN Engage with local communities to foster reconciliation, promote

inter-communal dialogue, and support initiatives for rebuilding trust,
social cohesion, and economic development.
BERESO Act as impartial mediators between the conflicting parties,
facilitating dialogue, negotiations, and the implementation of
agreements aimed at resolving grievances and building sustainable
peace.

DUHAYLUNGSOD Setting priorities for respectful and open communication between

people and communities is of the utmost importance for sustaining
peace. Tensions can be reduced and understanding can be
advanced by putting conflict resolution techniques into practice and
encouraging empathy.

JERUELA
Foster reconciliation and build trust between communities affected
by conflict. This may involve supporting grassroots reconciliation
initiatives, promoting inter-community dialogue, and addressing the
root causes of conflict.
