INSTRUCTIONS: Answer ALL Questions.

QUESTIONS
a) Explain TWO main Kirchhoff's laws. (4 marks)
b) Explain whether house lights should be hooked up in series or parallel and why. (2 marks)
c) A single switch controls three light bulbs. Using a simple diagram describe the type of circuit
used to connect the switch to the light bulbs. (2 marks)
d) A bulb is connected to the battery of some EMF equal to E. Discuss if the bulb will be
brighter or dimmer if it will be reconnected to a new battery of Enew=2E. Additionally, explain by
how much. (4 marks)
e) Using a simple illustration, state Ohm’s law and explain what will happen to the current in a
simple DC circuit with a constant voltage, when the resistance increases. (2 marks)
f) A circuit consists of the real battery (E=10V, r= 2Ω) and the resistor R= 3Ω. Calculate current
and the total power released in the circuit. (4 marks)
g) A metallic wire has resistivity 10μΩ*cm, length L equal to 50cm and the diameter d equal to 2
mm. Calculate its resistance. (4 marks)
h) Calculate the voltage that should be applied to a 5μF capacitor to accumulate 1μC charge on
its plates. (4 marks)

i) Explain why Electronics I course is important to a computer science student. (4 marks)
