I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
projectile motion, impulse and momentum, and conservation of linear momentum
B. Performance Standard:
C. Most Essential Learning Competency:
Specific Objectives:
1. Define impulse;
2. Solve problems involving impulse; and
3. Relate the concept of impulse in road safety and sports.
II. LEARNING RESOURCES
Concept:
IMPULSE
 The change in momentum experienced by an object.
 Impulse (I) is the product of the force (F) acting on an object and the time (t)
that the force acts.
 The SI unit for impulse is Newton-second (Ns).

I = Ft

The more momentum that an

object has, the harder it is stop.
Thus, would require a greater
amount of force or a longer
amount of time or both.

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. References
1. Physics books pp. 67-77
B. Other Learning Resources:
1. K-12 Teacher’s guide pages 216-217, synopses from the internet
2. Toy car, ruler and timer.
CLASS PROCEDURES
Preliminaries
 Prayer
 Classroom check
 Checking of Attendance
ELICIT
What is Momentum?
ENGAGE
 Why wearing seatbelts are so important when driving or riding a car?
EXPLORE
 Let the students study the following:

F=ma Second Law of motion

vf −vi
Since: a =
t
Then:
vf −vi
F = (m)( )
t

mvf −mvi
F= Distribution Property
t
Ft = mvf – mvi Cross Multiplication

Change in momentum is:

mvf – mvi

Since I = Ft

Therefore: I = mvf – mvi

EXPLAIN
 How is change in momentum related to impulse?
ELABORATE

EVALUATE
If a 5-kg object experiences a 10N force for duration of 0.10 second, then what is the momentum change of the object?

EXTEND
A hockey player applies an average force of 80.0N to a 0.25 kg hockey puck for a time of 0.10 seconds.
Determine the impulse experienced by the hockey puck.
IV. REFLECTION
No. of learners who earned 80% on the formative assessment
No. of learners who require additional activities for remediation
Did the remedial lesson work? No. of learners caught up with the lesson
No. of learners who continue to require remediation
Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why did this work?
