EFFICIENCY ACCURACY
“Real-Feasible-Impact-Resources”
(RFIR) Criteria
• In this next phase, we will screen ideas using the RFIR
filter.
• The RFIR is a criteria based filter that emphasizes
Accuracy. It aims to check :
– Is the opportunity real?
– Is the opportunity feasible?
– Will the opportunity generate impact?
– Are the resources available to support the opportunity?

Criteria
• Is there a need?
– What is the need? How is the need presently satisfied?
• Will the product/service satisfy the need?
– Is there a relative advantage to other products/services?
– Is there a real product/service concept?
• Would the decision makers be interested in this
product/service?
– Will people adopt? Why?
– Do perceived benefits outweigh risks?

Criteria
• Is the concept feasible?
– Is the technology available? Can it be implemented?
• Is the product/service acceptable within:
– Legal and environmental norms?
– Cultural norms? Existing risks & barriers?
• Is it possible to develop product/service:
– At low cost? Is it possible to make money? (ROI, NPV)
– With existing technology?
– With existing communication channels?
– With current barriers to adoption and implementation?
• Is the time required to get results reasonable?
• Are the risks acceptable?
– What could go wrong? Technical risks? Market risks? Other?

• Will the product/service:
– Deliver the desired impact?
– Have a competitive advantage?
– Be sustainable?
• Will the product/service:
– Leverage internal opportunities?
• Reduce organizational weaknesses?
• Increase organizational agility?
– Mitigate external threats/weaknesses?
• Reduce external threats?
• Leverage external opportunities?

Criteria
• Will you have the key resources required?
– Money: How much money would you require? How will you get it?
– Time: How much time would you require to develop the concept??
How long are you willing to work for its development?
– People: Which skills & experience would you require?
– Software: Do you need to build a platform? Website? What are the key
aspects you need to enable?
– Partners: What are the key partners you need to develop? How will you
go about it?
– Channels: Which are the key channels? How will you develop them?
• Does the concept fit your motivations?
– How committed are you? Does the concept fit with your aspirations?
Presentation – Improved Idea

• Prepare a 4-min (stand alone) presentation including 5


slides:
– Need: What is the main need/problem/motivation?
– Solution: What is your proposed idea/solution?
– Impact: How does the idea address the problem?
– Feasible: Why is it feasible?
– Resource: What do you require to implement it?
