Programme Overview
The Indian healthcare sector is growing at a tremendous pace and is projected to become
a US$ 280 billion industry by 2020. IIM Calcutta’s Post Graduate Certificate in Healthcare
Management (PGCHM) programme aims to address the specific needs of aspiring healthcare
practitioners and administrators by offering a combination of academic modules and hands-
on practical experience by way of Industry Immersion Programme (IIP). The programme
will give participants a rigorous and comprehensive exposure to healthcare management,
engaging with developments and debates in the global and Indian healthcare industry, public
health perspectives, and health systems management. PGCHM is designed in particular to
impart cutting-edge management education to variously trained healthcare professionals.

In-class modules will be supplemented with mentored independent study spread across
in-campus terms.

Programme Delivery
This is a one-year, full-time residential programme conducted by IIM Calcutta faculty at
the campus in Kolkata. Course delivery is through face-to-face sessions during the first
6/7 months with a two-week gap in between. This will be followed with the Industry
Immersion Programme(IIP) for the next 3/4 months. The IIP will be followed with face-
to-face classes at IIM Calcutta.

Certification
Participants are evaluated on the basis of examinations for all the courses. Participants
will be given any one of the following grades: ‘Excellent’, ‘Good’, ‘Fair’, or ‘Poor’. Those
getting not more than two ‘Poor’ grades will get a certificate of successful completion
of the programme and the course-wise grade list will be mentioned in the certificate.
Those getting more than two ‘Poor’ grades will get only a certificate of participation in
the programme. In such cases, the grade list will not be mentioned in the certificate.
Attendance is a very important criterion for the successful completion of the
programme. Also, giving feedback is an integral part of the completion requirements
of the programme.

Industry Immersion Programme (IIP)
Eligibility Criteria
Medical practitioners and administrators with MBBS/BDS/BAMS degree
or equivalent recognised by UGC/AICTE/MCI or equivalent. Students with
biotechnology and biomedical background can apply too. Students from other
disciplines with experience in the healthcare sector are also eligible.
Applicants need to have minimum 50% marks (aggregate - considering results of
all years) in graduation/post-graduation.
Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in healthcare as on application
closure date.

Rajesh Bhattacharya
Associate Professor,
Public Policy & Management
After B.Sc., M.Sc. and M.Phil. degrees in Economics from the University of Calcutta, Rajesh
Bhattacharya earned a doctorate (Ph.D. in Economics) from the University of Massachusetts,
Amherst, USA. His teaching experience before joining IIM Calcutta includes stints as
Instructor, Department of Economics, University of Massachusetts, Amherst; Assistant
Professor (Lecturer and Senior Lecturer), Jogamaya Devi College, Kolkata; Guest Lecturer,
Department of Economics, University of Calcutta. He has collaborated and contributed to
numerous journal articles, book reviews, reports, books and is frequently invited to speak
at various conferences. His research interests include informal economy, urban political
economy, social sector policies, planning and Indian economic development, and Indian
perspectives in social sciences.
Devi Vijay
Associate Professor,
Organisational Behaviour
A Ph.D. from IIM Bangalore, Devi Vijay’s current work examines inequality, vulnerable
communities, and mobilisation, with a focus on healthcare. She has been tracing the
evolution of the community-based form for palliative care in Kerala, and its translations to
other geographies. She has recently co-edited, “Alternative Organisations in India: Undoing
Boundaries” (Cambridge University Press, 2017), and has published in journals such as Public
Management Review, Marketing Theory, and Journal of Marketing Management. She was
awarded the Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (2016) and was a visiting
fellow at the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University during the grant period.

Programme Fee Structure
Application + Processing Fee INR 20,000 (INR 2500/- + INR 17500/-)
Collection of Fee:
Processing fee of INR 20,000 (INR 2500/- + INR 17500/-) will be collected at the time of application.
This entire amount will be refundable in case the participant’s profile is rejected by IIM Calcutta. INR
17500/- will be adjusted with the fee in case the participant gets selected and registers for
the programme.
