SECTION I (50 marks)
Answer all the questions
1. The area of a sector of a circle radius 2.1cm is 2.31cm2. Calculate the area of the minor segment of
this sector. (3 marks)

2. Find all the integral values of x which satisfy the inequalities.

3. Calculate the area of the shaded region below, given that AC is an arc of a circle centre B. Given
that
AB = BC = 14cm, CD = 8cm and angle ABD = 75o (3 marks)

4. Use logarithms to evaluate: (55·9) + (0·2621¿ 0·01177) 0.2 (3 marks)

5. A rectangular tank of base 24 m by 2·8 m and a height of 3 m contains 3,600 litres of water initially.
Water flows into the tank at the rate of 0·5 litres per second. Calculate the time in hours and minutes,
required to fill the tank. (3 marks)

6. A salesman gets a commission of 2.4% on sales up to sh100, 000. He gets an additional commission
of 1.5% on sale above this. Calculate the commission he gets on sales worth sh280, 000. (2 marks)

7. A point A is directly below a window. Another point B is 15m from A and at the same horizontal
level. From B the angle of elevation of the bottom of the window is 300 and the angle of elevation of
the top of the window is 350.Calculate the vertical distance
(a) From A to the top of the window. (1 mark)

8. The figure below shows a rectangular container of dimensions 40cm by 25cm by 90cm. A
cylindrical pipe of radius 7.5cm is fitted in the container as shown.

height of the container. Calculate the amount of water, in litres, in the container correct to 3

9. Points A (-2, 2) and B (-3, 7) are mapped onto A’ (4, -10) and B’ (0, 10) by an enlargement. Find
a) The scale factor of enlargement.
b) The coordinates of the centre of enlargement. (4 marks)

10. A cow is 4 years 8 months older than a heifer. The product of their ages is 8 years. Determine the
age of the cow and that of the heifer. (3 marks)

12. Akinyi bought thirty cups and twenty spoons for shs4610. Wanjiku bought twenty two cups and
Fatuma bought ten spoons of the same type as those bought by Akinyi. Wanjiku paid shs3245 more
than Fatuma. Find the price of each cup and each spoon using matrix method. (4 marks)

13. A fruiterer bought 144 pineapples at sh100 for every six pineapples. She sold some of them at sh72
for every three and the rest at sh60 for every two. If she made a 65% profit, calculate the number of
pineapples sold at sh72 for every three (3 marks)

OA=OB and angle AOB = 1200.

17. The co-ordinates of the points P and Q are (1, -2) and (4, 10) respectively. A point T divides the line
PQ in the ratio 2:1.
a) Determine the co-ordinates of T (2 marks)

b) i)Find the gradient of a line perpendicular to PQ (1 mark)

ii) Hence determine the equation of the line perpendicular to PQ and passing through T
(3 marks)

iii) If the line meets the y-axis at R, calculate the area and perimeter of triangle ORT where O is
the origin. (4 marks)

18. A school with n students planned to purchase a van costing shs2, 000,000. It was decided that each
student had to contribute an equal amount of money to meet the cost of the van. Forty students left
the school before contributing. Then, each of the remaining students had to contribute shs2500 more.
a. Form an equation in n and hence find the number of students who were in the school at the
beginning. (5 marks)

b. Before the students made their contribution the area MP agreed to pay 30% of the cost of the
bus. Calculate the amount each student contributed. (3 marks)

c. The students’ contribution consisted of the amount they received from members of the public
and from their parents. These amounts were in the ratio 5: 17. Calculate the total amount the
students received from their parents. (2 marks)

21. A particle travelling in a straight line passes a fixed point O on the line with a speed of 0.5m/s. The

23. A closed solid is made by joining together a cylinder of radius 14cm and a frustum of radius 14cm
