UNDERSTAND
Lesson 1. Counting the Value of a Set of Bills or a Set of Coins Through
PhP100
Counting money allows us to see how much we have and how much their worth. To
count the total amount of money that we have we can skip count.
EXAMPLE
We can find the value of these coins by skip counting. We have 5, 10,
15, 20, 25, 30. The total amount is 30¢. This is also written as PhP0.30.

Skip counting by 10, we have 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60.
This is PhP60.

centavo. We can read money values in symbols. The period between the amount in
pesos and the amount in centavos is read as “and”.
Our coins differ in size and value. The smallest value is one centavo coin, while
the greatest is the ten peso coin. Our paper bills also vary in value, color and serial
number. The smallest value in paper bill is twenty peso bill and the greatest value is
the one thousand peso bill.
