2 SAFETY

2.1 Introduction

General KONE safety regulations are to be followed during

the maintenance. All safety measures signified for normal
elevator maintenance are to be implemented and local
safety regulations followed.

2.2 Safety instructions for working with

the elevator

2.2.1 Taking the elevator out of service

• The elevator has to be taken out of service always, when

service engineer is committing normal maintenance, inspec-
tion or repair visit.
• Out of service signs have to be used on every landing and for
every door.

2.2.2 Working the main switch OFF

• Work always the main switch OFF if possible

• Use locked main switch to ensure safety when working with
electrical parts in the shaft.
• Note! Even if the main switch is OFF there are live parts, like
lighting, risers, and outlets. V3F16 capacitors have a high volt-
age for 5 min. after power off.
• INFORM EVERYONE BEFORE SWITCHING THE POWER
ON!

‹ .21(&RUSRUDWLRQ %7

$OOULJKWVUHVHUYHG $
(OLQH0RQR6SDFHŒ
Maintenance handbook

2.2.3 Moving the car manually

• Moving the car with manual hoist or by opening the brake is

permitted only when main switch is OFF.
• Never try to move the car by opening the brake, if motor
cables are disconnected!
• Always control the car speed through the shaft window and let
the brake close if the speed seems to accelerate.
• Never leave the car on safety gear without additional security,
if the car is not suspended by the ropes. For example, like a
hoist between car and guide rail fixing bracket.
1RWH7KH0RQR6SDFHŒEORFNLQJGHYLFHLVQRW
PHDQWWREHVXFKVHFXULW\DQGLWPXVWQRWEH
XVHGDVVXFK
• When opening the brake manually must interval be 0.5 to 1
sec.

2.2.4 Working with the machine

• Use always a blocking device to attach the car to guide rails

when working with brake or other machine parts.
• The blocking device is only designed to prevent car move-
ment when ropes are on.
1RWH1HYHUXVHWKHEORFNLQJGHYLFHDVWKHRQO\
VHFXULW\ZKHQORRVHQLQJURSHV

2.3 KONE Safety Policy

We will deliver safe products and services to our elevator

and escalator customers and users. We will protect the
health and safety of our personnel by providing them with
safe working conditions. We will fully understand and
adhere to the safety requirements of our process,
procedures and products. Safety is everyone's
responsibility. Our goal is Zero Accidents.

2.4 Public Safety

• Keep the control panel door closed and locked always when
not working with the panel.
• Use additional safety fences or guarding, if there is a danger
that outsiders enter working zone in front of the control panel

while touch protection shields are removed.

• Never leave shaft doors open and unattended, if the car is not
on that floor.
• Never try to move the car when the doors are open. That may
cause a serious hazard, if somebody is trying to enter or exit
the car simultaneously as it is moving.

2.5 Personal Safety

• Use proper personal safety equipment. These include e.g.

helmet, gloves and safety harness.
• Never lift anything with defective lifting equipment.

10 TROUBLE SHOOTING OF AMD DOOR

10.1 Supervision led’s

The supervision LEDs are used to find the reason for an

electronic fault in the drive or for reduced door
performance. For example, the Watchdog LED indicates a
drive board ’computer’ fault.
