Write a story which includes the words, “…I was convinced I was right…”

Looking at Jennifer basking in the thunderous applause, I stood beneath the stage,
caught in a whirlwind of shock and anger. The moment her artwork was displayed on screen, I
was convinced that I was right…
The artwork was painfully familiar - the lifeful art style, the splendid colours and the
weeping whale, all of that was mine!
A full whole year I had spent on this artwork, gutting my inspiration and vomiting my soul
onto the canvas, in an attempt to achieve success - a Scholarship ticket to my dream school.
The journey was dreadful , exhausting and filled with self -doubt. Only with the support from my
older sister, I managed to get through all the challenges and see the light of the day.
But Jennifer, my so-called best friend, was the thief who claimed my painstaking effort
as her glory. Days before my sixth sense was implying that Jennifer was ‘odd’. She was not a
fan of art, particularly my art which she always doubted my style. Since the day I told her I had
joined the Best Artist competition, her derision abnormally changed to compliment. Now I
realized. Her surreptitious action was a hint of her aim to steal my inspiration and use it for her
own good. How dare she!
Anger surged through me, but then unfolded by my low self-esteem, What could I do
about that? People seemed more of the art piece, less of the artist behind the scene.
Triumphantly, Jennifer smirked on the glorious stage; Conversely, I was in the eerie shadow
below the stage. A tremendous sense of gap in expectation caused me to want to escape from
the scene.
Suddenly, a voice jolted my leave. As I turned around, my older sister was standing on
the stage, clutching onto the microphone. Why is she there? I stared at her in disbelief.
"'Jennifer wasn't the real artist! She plagiarized this artwork from Lisa Maloney, my younger
sister!” She bravely revealed the truth, her voice was powerful and influencing.
The audience below the stage erupted into chaos. Murmurs and criticisms filled the air
as Jennifer trembled with fury, her face reddened like a raging beast and her joyful smile
contorted into a ferocious scowl. She was now forced to confront the damning truth.
The ceremony came to a halt, when Jennifer and I were brought to a room backstage.
There the judges sternly commanded us to present all our research, plans and drafting for the
art piece. Unsurprisingly, Jennifer failed to defend and was then banned from all art
competitions. She had to face the consequences of her action.
"We apologized for the small hiccup of the ceremony. Let me introduce the true winner
of the Best Artist competition - Lisa Maloney! " Amidst the applause, I stepped up the stage
hesitantly, emerging under the dazzling stagelight. Seeking for refuge, my gaze met with my
sister's proud smile at the audience. Tears welled up her eyes as her lip mouthed, " You
deserve this." At that moment, I rekindled my confidence and accepted my prize.
I had learned a valuable lesson - to trust my instincts and be cautious of the company I
kept. Thankfully, justice had prevailed, and I had finally achieved my dream. The Scholarship
was now mine, and I could look forward to a bright future ahead.
