Malala had begun writing a blog under a
pseudonym about the increasing military activity
in her home town and about fears that her
school would be attacked.
Malala and her father Ziauddin continued to
speak out for the right to education after her
indentity is revealed.
Yousafzai and two other girls were shot by a Taliban
gunman on their way home from school after taking an
axam.
A masked gunman shouted: "Which one of you is
Malala? Speak up, otherwise I will shoot you all." Upon
being identified, Yousafzai was shot with one bullet,
which travelled 46 cm from the side of her left eye,
through her neck and landed in her shoulder.
She remained unconscious and in critical
condition but her condition later improved enough
for her to be transferred to the Queen Elizabeth
Hospital in Birmingham, UK.
The attempt on her life sparked an international
outpouring of support for her.
After her recovery, Yousafzai became a prominent
