How is statistics used in aviation?
Statistical data are compiled by airlines, airports and civil aviation authorities applying international
standards. Aviation statistics are widely used throughout the industry, ranging from monitoring
global industry performance to detailed network planning and competitor benchmarking.

U.S. airlines carried 194 million more passengers in 2022 than in 2021, up 30% year-to-year. For the
full year 2022, January through December, U.S. airlines carried 853 million passengers (unadjusted),
up from 658 million in 2021 and 388 million in 2020.

2
Why is aviation statistics important?
In today's rapidly changing aviation industry, accessing accurate statistical data is essential for making
clear, data-backed choices for organizations. For over 60 years, WATS has been the trusted source for
the aviation industry, providing the most accurate statistical resource available.

Safety analysis: Statistics are used to analyze data related to aviation accidents and incidents, in order to
identify trends and patterns that may indicate potential safety issues. This information is then used to
develop safety initiatives and improve safety practices in the aviation industry.

Do airlines use statistics?

The main function of statistics function in an airline is to collect base data from various sources,
organize the data and analyze the same so as to take management decisions related to airline
planning and operations.

Why is data analytics important in the aviation industry?

By using data analytics for predictive maintenance, aviation companies benefit from improved safety,
efficiency, and profitability by streamlining maintenance schedules and increasing aircraft uptime,
leading to higher customer satisfaction scores and increased revenue streams.
3
What are the applications of AI in Airbus?
Computer vision and machine-learning technologies based on AI are critical to enabling self-
piloted commercial aircraft to take off and land, and to navigate and detect ground obstacles
autonomously.

What is the application of data science in aerospace industry?

One of the most significant applications of data science in aerospace is predictive
maintenance, a process that leverages data and analytics to predict when an aircraft
component will fail or require maintenance. This proactive approach not only improves safety
but also reduces downtime and operational costs.

Data can be used to improve the fuel efficiency of aircraft and operations and can be used to reduce
the environmental impact of aviation, such as noise pollution and CO2 emissions. Data is also critical in
providing executives with the business intelligence they need to make informed decisions.

4
What is aviation data analysis?
Aviation data analysts help airlines optimize routes, enhance safety measures, improve operational
efficiency, and enhance customer experiences. They also assist airports in managing passenger flow,
improving security protocols, and optimizing resource allocation.

What types of data do airlines use?

Airlines use AI systems with built-in machine learning algorithms to collect and analyze flight
data regarding each route distance and altitudes, aircraft type and weight, weather, etc. Based
on findings from data, systems estimate the optimal amount of fuel needed for a flight

What is the role of AI in aviation?

It helps optimize runway traffic, reduce delays, and enhances safety with advanced surveillance
systems. Furthermore, AI-driven customer service and personalized experiences are making
airports more passenger-friendly, ensuring that the future of air travel is smarter and more
enjoyable.

5
How is data science useful in air route planning?

Data science and machine learning are used to evaluate passenger demand across different
routes, optimize aircraft ground handling and fueling, or redefine passengers' airport
experiences with biometric boarding with new distribution technologies.

It is possible for aviation businesses to streamline their flight planning, crew scheduling,
maintenance tracking, aircraft dispatch, and other processes. AI could monitor aircraft systems in
real-time and detect anomalies that could indicate a problem. This could help prevent accidents
and reduce maintenance costs
