I. Explain in your own words the following terms. Use as much space as needed.
a. Diglossia
A situation where two varieties of a language are used in the same community, an
example can be a language that’s used or learned at home and another variety
learned in school.
b. Pidgin
A simplified speech used for communication by people who speak different
languages.
c. Creole
A language that has developed from a mixture of languages
d. Lingua Franca
A lingua franca is a language or way of communicating which is used between
people who do not speak one another's native language.
e. Linguistic borrowing
When a word is adopted in another language, to use it in their language.
f. Cognates
A cognate is a word that has the same linguistic derivation as another.
g. False cognates
When a word from in the source language looks like a word from the target
language but has a different meaning
II. How is bilingualism related to diglossia?
That the both of these terms are related to manage two languages, the difference is
the level of being able to use one of the languages.
