PROTECT ENVIRONMENT

Write a short paragraph to explain why it is important to protect the

environment. Also, describe different things that people can do in their daily
lives to help the environment.

It is imperative to protect our natural environment from deteriorating, and the

only way to do that is through environmental protection. This process should
be adopted by every country as soon as possible before it is too late.

There are three main goals of environmental protection:

1. To protect human health: This is the most important goal of

environmental protection because humans cannot survive without a
healthy environment.
2. To protect ecosystems: Ecosystems are the foundation of life on Earth,
and they provide many benefits to humans, such as clean air and water,
food, and fiber.
3. To promote sustainable development: Sustainable development is a
development that meets the needs of the present without compromising
the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Earth is a beautiful place to live in, with the most favorable environmental
conditions for living beings. But we humans are making it vulnerable and are
destroying our own homes with activities that are causing pollution at an
increased rate.

With pollution increasing each year and causing deterioration of the natural
environment, it has become necessary to take steps to protect the natural
environment.
Ten Simple Things You Can Do to Help Protect the Earth

● Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Cut down on what you throw away. Follow
the three "R's" to conserve natural resources.
● Conserve water. The less water you use, the less runoff
● Plant a tree. Trees provide food and oxygen. They help save energy, clean
the air, and help combat climate change.
● Bike more. Drive less.
● Shop wisely. Buy less plastic and bring a reusable shopping bag.
● Choose non-toxic chemicals in the home and office.
● Volunteer. Volunteer for cleanups in your community.
● Use long-lasting light bulbs. Energy efficient light bulbs reduce
greenhouse gas emissions
● Turn off the lights when you leave a room. Lights can contribute to the
increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
● Cut down your paper usage.

What Is Climate Change?

Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather

patterns.

Human activity is causing worldwide temperatures to rise higher and faster

than any time we know of in the past.

What is the impact of plastic on the environment.

Plastic pollution - an issue that threatens our environment and the wildlife
within it. Plastic pollution is excess plastic that, due to its durability and the
sheer amount produced, can now be found in the sea, on beaches, in lakes and
rivers. Plastic bottles and containers now litter the sides of many roads and
pose a threat to wildlife and ecosystem.

Plastics are made from fossil fuels, finite and environmentally damaging
resources. Post-World War II, plastic production took on a new form, replacing
product materials prior to it in a revolutionary way. Plastics allowed us to
develop more efficient machinery, advanced medical practices and travel and
helped in the fight for providing clean drinking water.
However, there are many problems with plastic, with the main issue being its
non-biodegradable nature (some plastics can take up to 1,000 years to
biodegrade). Single-use plastics are, therefore, a big problem. Single-use
plastics are essentially plastic products that are made from fossil fuel-based
chemicals, like petrochemicals, that are meant to be used once and disposed of
right after. Bottles, straws and shopping bags are all single-use plastics.

So, what happens is, single-use plastics are produced and used in mass, around
the world, every day. This, hand in hand with improper disposal (non-recycling)
and littering, produce plastic pollution on a global scale.

What are the Dangers of Plastic Pollution?

Today, plastic pollution is the most prevalent issue affecting the marine
environment. As marine life become entangled with plastic in their habitat,
plastic pollution poses a deadly threat to wildlife such as fish, whales and
dolphins. Mistaking plastic for food, plastic pollution also poses a deadly threat
to seabirds.

Plastic Pollution Facts for Children

● Plastic pollution can be found on every beach in the world.
● 40% of plastic produced every year is single-use plastic.
● In 2016, over 320 million tons of plastic were produced. As the
population increases, so does plastic production.
● A study by Eunomia in 2016 suggested that 12 million tons of plastic
pollution ends up in our oceans annually.
● Plastic is an extremely durable material, when containing additives, they
are even stronger and can take at least 400 years to degrade.
● 100,000 marine mammals and turtles are killed annually.

What's the Solution to Plastic Pollution?

As the issue of plastic pollution has become increasingly prevalent, governments,
organisations and communities are striving to implement strategies to tackle the
danger posed by our mass production of plastic
