Introduction:
Aim:
To investigate the Harvard University’s Claudia Goldin research that shows how womens role
in the job market has not moved in a straight line.

Plan:
 collect data on the table
 observe the difference between the salaries
 import graphs into excel
 make graphs to understand data
 use data to make a psmt
 make 10 page psmt

We will find the mean, median, and mode and direct a 5 number summary to
contradict between the scores of the men and women engineering.

Observations:
 There is a massive gap between both male and female dominated average salaries.
 The gender pay gap still remains
 Graphs are made to distinguish between data

Assumptions:
 there has to be a fair and equitable report of data
 There cannot be a bias towards any of the data
 This is because if there is a bias towards any of the data then you would not be able
to properly qualify and identify the data freely.

The median was chosen because it was the best way to compare the male and female
dominated salaries. It can be seen from the data that there is not gender equality. From the
two data sets, the median for male average salaries is $109,098 while the female average
salary is $90,068. There is exactly 21% difference between the male and female dominated
salaries.

Using the data:


From the data of the male and female dominated salaries, there is approximately $19,030
difference between the gender medians. This means that there is a 21% difference between
the average salaries of a male and female in the engineering working category. Claudia
Golden states in her article that the female wage has not moved in a straight line for a number
of decades. The salary gap between a female and male has slowly started to decrease over the
1980s, Claudia says.

Evaluating the results:


After analysing the results of the median in the data sets, it is obvious that the male and
female salaries are not at all supporting gender equality within the workplace. Females are
being paid over 20% less than a male. How can we fix this? A female’s average salary in the
engineering category should be increased by at least 20% to make salaries more even. From
the observations and assumptions of the data, there is a major gap between the male and
female dominated salaries. The above graphs (box and whisker plot and histogram) proves
that there is a major pay gap between both salaries. The mode in the data (the most frequent
number) proves that there is no double up numbers in the female data. Therefore, there is no
mode. The mean in the data shows that there is a 23.48% difference between the gender
dominated salaries. From using excel to compare the data there has been both strengths and
limitations within the data. The limitations of using excel are the box and whisker plot, which
has not been able to be created properly on the app, and the strengths of using excel is the fact
that graphs and tables of data can be transferred and created easily.

Conclusion:
The aim, To investigate the Harvard University’s Claudia Goldin research that shows how
women’s role in the job market has not moved in a straight line. The aim in this assessment
was achieved because it is clear in the data that the males are paid at an exceptionally
higher rate of salary compared to a female undertaking the same role. This also clearly
indicates lack of equality within the workplace.
