Specific Learning Outcomes At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to;
a. describe how light travels;
b. appreciate the importance of light; and
c. participate in class
D. LC Code
II. CONTENT
Subject Matter THE PATH OF LIGHT
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide
2. Learner’s Material Science Textbook page 194
3. Additional Materials for
Learning Resources (LR)
IV. PROCEDURES Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity
A. PREPARATORY
ACTIVITIES
1. Prayer Before we begin, let’s have a prayer first. (pupils praying)

2. Greetings Good morning, everyone! Good morning, Teacher

Joy.
How are you this morning?
We are fine, teacher.
That’s good to hear.

3. Checking of Attendance
Let me check your attendance before we start.

Who is absent today?

(Answer depends)

Now, who can remember the topic that was

4. Review discussed last meeting? It’s about Properties of
light.
Alright. That is correct!

Can someone tell me what are the three

properties of light? Straight line, reflection and
refraction, Teacher.
Very good! It seems that you understood the
topic last meeting.

We will have a game this game is called

5. Motivation ‘’ARRANGE ME’’ You will be going to
arrange the scrambled letter inside the
envelope. And paste it on the board.

GROUP 1: TRANSULCSENT
TRANSLUCENT
GROUP 2: LMUINUOS
LUMINOUS
GROUP 3: NON- LMUINUOS
NON- LUMINOUS

B. PROPER LESSON
1. Presentation of the
Lesson

2. Setting of Standard CLASSROOM RULES

 LISTEN CAREFULLY TO THE

DISCUSSION
 RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU
WANT TO ANSWER
 PARTICIPATE IN GROUP
ACTIVITY
 SIT PROPERLY
 RESPECT YOUR CLASSMATES

3. Activity Before we begin our discussion today, let’s

have an activity first. What you are going to do
is to arrange the cutted pictures inside these
envelopes. Each picture corresponds to a
number that will help you to arrange the image.
You will be given three minutes to do the
activity.

Are you ready? Yes, Teacher.

Group 1

Group 2

Group 3

4. Analysis For group 1, what image have you arranged? A candle, teacher.

The sun, teacher.

How about group 2?

And for the last group? It’s a flashlight, teacher.

Alright! So now, what have you noticed about The images can produce
the activity or images that you had arranged? light, teacher.

5. Abstraction Alright! So, this time, we are going to discuss

the path of light.

But, let us know first what is light.

Light is everywhere. It is a form of energy that

allows us to see the world.

The main source of light on earth is the sun.

Many scientists have been studying the nature
of light. Some say that light behaves like a
wave. Other scientists say that light behaves
like a group of particles.

For us to understand the nature of light. Let’s

try this activity.

Materials:

Tape
Box
Cardboard
Laser light/flashlight

Here are the things that we must do:

1. Get a flashlight/laser light and aim it at

the ceiling. Observe the path of light.
Record your observations in your
science notebook.

2. Ask one of your groupmates to block

the path coming from the
flashlight/laser light with a thick
cardboard. Record your observations
in your science notebook.

3. Get the three cardboards with holes of

the same size. Tape it inside the box at
least 2 inches from each other. Align
the holes in such a way that the wall
can be seen through the holes.

4. Aim the flashlight/laser light through

the first hole. Observe what happens.

5. Now, misalign the cardboard in the

middle. Keep the light aimed at the
cardboard. Observe what happens.

Now, we have here some guide questions.

1. Did the light form a straight line when

you aimed it at the ceiling? - Yes, it does.

2. When you blocked the light with a

thick cardboard, was it able to pass - No, teacher.
through it? Explain your answer. Because the
cardboard blocked
the light from the

holes, was the light able to pass
through it? Explain your answer. - With the three
holes aligned, the
light was able to
4. When one of the cardboards was not pass through it,
aligned with the other cardboard, was teacher.
the light able to pass through the
cardboard? Why is this so? - The light could not
pass through the
other cardboard,
teacher because the
misaligned
cardboard blocked
the path of light.
5. What can you say about the way light
travels? - The light travels in
a straight line
when going
through a single
medium through
which a light wave
can travel.
Light always travels in a straight line when
going to a single medium or any substance
through which a light wave can travel.

In some media like air, light travels

QUICKLY. On other media like glass or
water, light travels SLOWLY.

Objects that can produce light is called

LUMINOUS OBJECTS.

Examples:

Candles

Lamp
Light bulb

Flashlight

Objects that cannot produce light are called

NON-LUMINOUS OBJECTS.

Examples:

Wood

Clothes
Books

Objects vary in how they transmit light.

Generally, non-luminous objects are classified
into three.

They are, TRANSPARENT,

TRANSLUCENT, AND OPAQUE.

C. CONCLUDING
ACTIVITIES

1. Generalization In a media like air, the light can travel? It travels quickly, Teacher.

That’s correct!

How about in a media like glass or water? It travels slowly, teacher.

Very good! That is correct.

Now, what do we call objects that produce Luminous object, teacher.

light?

Great!

How about an object that cannot produce light? Non-luminous object,

teacher.
Very good!

Non-luminous objects are classified into three.

What are those?
Transparent, Translucent,
Very good! Opaque, teacher.

How important light is?

2. Valuing It is really important
Very good! because we can see the
world because of light,
Teacher.
Without light, can we still see the world?

No, teacher. Because it

That is correct! would be so dark without
light.

3. Application Match the words in the picture it refers.

1. Luminous

1. D
2. C
3. B
4. A
2. Non- luminous

3. Transparent

4. Translucent

4. Evaluation This time we will have a quiz. Choose your

answer inside the box and write your answers
on your paper.

1. Allows all light or most light to travel

through.
2. It is essential for us to see things, and 1. Transparent
to see the world. 2. Light
3. Objects that produce light. 3. Luminous
4. Blocks all the lights passing through. 4. Opaque
5. Objects that cannot produce light. 5. Non-luminous
