ASTRONOMY NOTES

WHAT IS ASTRONOMY?

 Astronomy is the study of everything in the universe beyond Earth's

atmosphere. That includes objects we can see with our naked eyes,

like the Sun , the Moon , the planets, and the stars . It also includes

objects we can only see with telescopes or other instruments, like

faraway galaxies and tiny particles.

 Astronomy is the branch of science that studies the universe, the

stars and the planets. Astronomy combines aspects of maths and

physics to study how the universe was formed and the celestial

bodies that are contained within it. It is the oldest of the natural

sciences.

Why is field astronomy important?

 The science of field astronomy offers to surveyors a means of

determining the absolute location of any point or absolute location

and direction of any line-on the surface of the earth, by making

astronomical observations to celestial bodies.

 Understanding their composition, atmosphere, and potential

habitability is a major research area. 2. Dark Matter and Dark Energy:

The quest to comprehend the nature of dark matter and dark energy,

which constitute the majority of the universe's mass and energy,

remains a significant pursuit.
