Movie Review: Seven Sundays

“Kayo lang ang meron ako” highlights the story of this film called Seven Sundays. This
film was released last October 11, 2017 & it features famous celebrities like Aga
Muhlach, Dingdong Dantes, Cristine Reyes, Enrique Gil, and Ronaldo Valdez and it is
directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina. Seven Sundays revolves around the story of Bonifacio
family, where Manuel, the father of 4 children got diagnosed with cancer & he had only
one wish is to see his family whole again, where the siblings have to settle their
differences just to spend time with Manuel on his last remaining Sundays.

This story starts when Manuel was being greeted on his birthday by Dr. Nelson with
lung cancer with 5 months left to live and with the news spread to his 4 children: Allan,
Bryan, Charmaine, and Dexter, they decided to spend his last remaining days in their
old family household despite their current personal issues they’re dealing with. The
conflict arises in this film when their basketball game become heated and the siblings
argued each other during his father’s birthday party which make Manuel feel
disappointed because of how distant their relationship is and it even gets worse when
he found out that he doesn't have lung cancer, only tuberculosis which fears that the
siblings might abandoned him when they found out about this so he pretended to be
sicks just to continue on reconnecting his family. And as the days passed, they’re
starting to reconnect & helping one another after bringing up their past memories they
had together but it got changed when their personal issues are starting to invade their
family & found out that he does not have cancer and this go back to their arguing state
& then abandoned his father after that revelation. In the end, the siblings were able to
reconciled & decided to help each other on their issues which they’re able to reconcile
with their father as well & become a whole family again.

Brian becomes the tagasalo of the Bonifacio family in this movie which he’s the one
willingly helps his family in different ways including Allan. And this adds the concept of
pagdadala when Allan so fed up for becoming a charity stake & that he becomes a
burden on Brian because he’s helping him too much financially which turn into an
argument against Brian given he’s the only one that is educated & had a stable job that
Brian resents for being tagasalo because he sacrificed so much for this family that he
couldnt be a father on his biological son. Hospitality value is presented in this movie like
how townspeople greeted him on his birthday despite the fact that he’s a former
barangay captain in that area. The concept of loob also plays an important role when
Brian willingly helps Allan in financial needs which he also helped him in the past that he
“kusang loob” to be in charge of the store while Allan pursuing dancing abroad & let
Allan take in charge of the store because the needs of his own family and
kapalagayang-loob become a part of it when Brian opens up to his brother Allan about
the fact that he has a son with Juliana which Allan willingly helped him to contact
Juliana which is an example of utang na loob for helping him on his financial situation.

To conclude this review, its shows the importance of family in our lives as Filipinos
because they help & unite together as one which makes their bond stronger. It relates
me on the current situation because i have a family that I can tell my troubles to, able to
talk to, and able to bond with which makes us better & able to conquer different
challenges & unite as one which reminds me that I still have a family to depend to on
my good and bad times which inspires me to push to be better at all things just to help
my family. Overall, this movie provides an understanding on the current state of this
family concept & how they behave in this particular situation & how they’re individual
issues will affect their relationship as a family & how they will conquer it together.
