ABSTRACT

The main aim of the project is to address the critical need for advanced infant
care solutions with real-time communication. It aims to enhance the well-being of infants
and provide peace of mind to parents and caregivers. It is developed to accurately interpret
infant cries, enabling timely responses to the baby's needs by providing music and colourful
lightings. Additionally, we aim to incorporate a GSM alert system to notify parents or
caregivers of critical events and implement a cradle comfort control mechanism that will
wave the cradle whenever the baby cries. The GSM alert system ensures that caregivers
receive instant notifications through calls regarding the baby's well-being and needs. It
provides an innovative solution to enhance infant care and support parental responsiveness.
The motivation behind our project is to address the challenges faced by caregivers in
understanding and responding to infant needs, especially during the night or when separated
from the baby.

CHAPTER 3

PROPOSED WORK
3.1 PROBLEM STATEMENT:

 Difficulty in Timely Response to Infant's Cries: Caregivers often struggle to respond

promptly to their baby's cries, especially during the night. This can lead to prolonged
discomfort and disrupted sleep for both the baby and caregivers.

 Limited Tools for Infant Soothing: Traditional methods of soothing infants may not
always be effective. Many caregivers face challenges in providing appropriate
soothing techniques, which can lead to increased stress for both the infant and
caregivers.

 Lack of Real-time Communication for Caregivers: Parents and caregivers may lack
real-time information about their baby's needs, especially when they are separated
from the baby's room. This can cause anxiety and uncertainty, as they may not know
if the baby is calming down or if their intervention is required.

3.2.OBJECTIVE:

 The objective of our project titled “GSM ENABLED AUTOMATIC CRADDLE

WITH MUSIC AND LIGHTING SYSTEM” is to enhance the well-being and
safety of infants, offering parents and caregivers a proactive tool.

 Overall our project contributes to improved infant-parent interactions and well-

rounded development of infant care system

CHAPTER-4

PROPOSED WORK

4.1 BLOCK DIAGRAM:

The proposed block diagram consists of Arduino UNO, GSM module,
servo motor, sound sensor, DF mini player and speaker(3w).

4.1 BLOCK DIAGRAM OF GSM ENABLED AUTOMATIC CRADDLE

WITH MUSIC AND LIGHTING SYSTEM.

13
4.2. COMPONENTS DESCRIPTION
4.2.1. ARDUINO UNO:

Arduino UNO is a
microcontroller board based on the ATmega328P. It has 14 digital input/output
pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz ceramic
resonator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header and a reset button.

4.2.2.DF MINI PLAYER:

The DF Player Mini is a small and low-cost MP3 module

player with a simplified output directly to the speaker. The DF Player mini
standalone can be used as a stand-alone module with an attached battery, speaker,
and push buttons or used in combination with an Arduino UNO or any other with
RX/TX capabilities.

14
4.2.3.RGB LED STRIP:

An RGB LED is an LED module that can produce almost any

color using these three primary additive colors: Red, Green and Blue. The
simplest version of an RGB LED has a combination of 3 separate light-emitting
diodes in one package, housed under a clear protective lens.

4.2.4.GSM MODULE (SIM 900):

This is an ultra compact and reliable wireless module. The

SIM900A is a complete Dual-band GSM/GPRS solution in a SMT module which
can be embedded in the customer applications allowing you to benefit from small
dimensions and cost-effective solutions.

15
4.2.5. SPEAKER(3W):

A 3W speaker is designed to handle a 3W amplifier operating at

3W peak with undistorted program material. Regular program material (voice or
music) usually has an average power of about 1/10th the peak power... So, a 3W
amp (at full undistorted volume) is putting-out about 0.3W average and the
speaker can handle that.

4.2.6. PUSH BUTTON:

A push button switch is a mechanical device used to control an electrical circuit

in which the operator manually presses a button to actuate an internal switching
mechanism. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and configurations,
depending on the design requirements

16
4.2.7. SERVO MOTOR (Sg90):

Servo Motor SG90 is a tiny and lightweight server motor with high
output power. Servo can rotate approximately 180 degrees (90 in each direction),
and works just like the standard kinds but smaller. You can use any servo code,
hardware or library to control these servos.

4.2.8. SOUND SENSOR:

A sound sensor is a simple, easy-to-use, and low-cost device

that is used to detect sound waves traveling through the air. Not only this but it can
also measure its intensity and most importantly it can convert it to an electrical
signal which we can read through a microcontroller.

17
4.2.9.SD CARD:

A Secure Digital (SD) card is a tiny flash memory card

designed for high-capacity memory and various portable devices, such as car
navigation systems, cellular phones, e-books, PDAs, smartphones, digital
cameras, music players, digital video camcorders and personal computers.

4.2.10. ELECTRET CONDENSOR MICRPHONE:

An electret condenser microphone (ECM) consists of two plates,

one fixed (back plate) and one moveable (diaphragm). There is a small gap
between each plate and when sound waves hit the diaphragm, the movement
causes the capacitance between the diaphragm and the back plate to change

18
4.3. METHODOLOGY:

Sound Sensor: The system starts with a sound sensor or microphone placed in the baby's
room. This sensor continuously monitors the ambient noise level.

Music and Lights: When the system detects a baby's cry, it triggers several responses
simultaneously. Music can be played through a built-in speaker or connected audio system
to soothe the baby. Colorful LED lights can also start glowing softly to create a calming
environment.

Cradle Movement: Some advanced systems may include a motorized cradle that starts
gently swinging when the baby cries. This motion can help comfort and lull the baby back
to sleep.

GSM Alert: Simultaneously, the system sends an alert call through a GSM (cellular)
network to the parents' or caregivers' smartphones. This informs them that the baby is crying
and the soothing process has started. The system can also offer a live audio stream from the
baby's room to the parents' or caregivers' smartphones. This helps them decide whether they
need to intervene or if the baby is gradually calming down.

CHAPTER-5

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the project aims to address a range of challenges faced by both infants and
caregivers. These challenges include difficulties in responding to infant needs, disrupted
sleep patterns, limited tools for soothing, and a lack of real-time communication. By
combining cry sound detection technology with responsive systems like music, lights, cradle
movement, and GSM alerts, the project strives to enhance infant well-being, improve
caregiver confidence, and provide a more secure and peaceful environment for both infants
and caregivers.
In addition to the challenges outlined above, the project also focuses on promoting effective
communication between infants and caregivers, ensuring the emotional well-being and
security of infants, and addressing safety concerns during sleep. By tackling these
multifaceted issues, the project seeks to offer a comprehensive solution that not only
alleviates immediate problems but also contributes to the overall development and
happiness of infants and the peace of mind of their caregiver
