Week 5 Lecture Notes:

Grammar Points:
- Passive sentences
- Adj + する --> to make

Passive Sentences:
- tells us that a verb is done to someone
- takes the emphasis off of who does the action, and places it on who is
affected by the action
- Can express dissatisfaction, unhappiness towards someone/something and
what they did

Ru Verbs:
- Drop る, add られる

U Verbs:
- Drop last vowel -う、 add -あれる
- Note: verbs ending in う become わ
Eg,
- あそぶ → あそばれる
- 買う → 買われる

Irregular Verbs:
- くる → こられる
- する → される

Example:
1) 友だちが私の車を使われました。
- My friend used my car (and i am unhappy)
2) 母に、彼から来た手紙を読まれてしまった。
- My mother read the letter (for me) that came from them(partner?)
- Using てしまう, (Often seen for indirect passive)

Adj + する：
- To make …

い adjective:
- Drop last い add くする

な adj:
- Drop な add にする
Noun:
ように・みたいに ＋する
- Add ように・みたいに after noun, then add する
