About Us
The Malaysian National Space Agency (ANGKASA) is a government organization responsible for leading the development of space science in Malaysia and to encourage the community in taking interest in astronomy and space exploration. They are also responsible for assisting the government in formulating and executing the National Space Fundamentals to ensure the accuracy of pedagogical materials regarding space science.

Space Awareness Program

Introduction
Studies in the field of astronomy holds the answer to questions about our home planet; the origin, life outside Earth and the Universe. Day by day, it is hard to deny the fact that the universe continues to capture the imagination of the community, providing opportunities for learning and exploration. Furthermore, space systems are used for everyday purposes such as weather forecasts, navigation systems such as Global Positioning System (GPS), and communications. There is an increasing awareness of the value of space as an economic market with relation to many other economic sectors, as well as a critical enabler of national and social benefits. Leaders in government and industry perceive that the business of space requires concerted policies, regulations, and investment structures that build on partnership, whether among governments or between industry and government. The rapid evolution of satellite navigation products and applications illustrates the tremendous and often unforeseen spin-offs from space investments. Russia, China and the United States boast as countries to have contributed to the field of space exploration and having prominent space programs. In 2007, Malaysia made its proud mark by sending our first space explorer to the skies on a noble mission to the plant the seed of interest in space exploration among young Malaysians. To further encourage young Malaysians, the National Space Agency of Malaysia (ANGKASA) will be launching a campaign to promote the importance of the field of astronomy and space exploration, especially among children ages 10 to 17. In order to succeed in this campaign, we urge corporations to support this campaign as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. Where does your organization fit in? Almost every firm has incorporated CSR into their corporate governance agenda, contributing time and effort into making the world a better place, one step at a time. Malaysia intends to boost its edge in the field of space exploration with the Space Awareness Program by providing children with a realistic view of the skills required to pursue their dreams. Program Overview
The National Space Agency of Malaysia (ANGKASA) is launching a campaing to promote the importance of space education and exploration among Malaysian students, ages 10 to 17. Space exploration has always been a capital intensive endeavor requiring immense resources and extensive research, and our aim is to simply grant our youth opportunities to achieve their dreams. In an effort to initiate this program to vast success, we seek the support of your firm by sponsoring our campaign.

Objectives
To enhance space subjects and disciplines in schools, and to promote the integrity of space science. To provide educators with opportunities to develop and strengthen their knowledge and skills in astronomy, and to assist educators to acquire, develop and produce appropriate pedagogical materials for students. To raise awareness of space exploration among Malaysian children, furthermore educating them of the benefits of space activities for the social, economic and cultural development. To promote the inclusion of space technology in national science and economic programs to help achieve sustainable development. To contribute to the preparation of the next generation of space professionals and workforce (space scientists, astronauts, engineers, astrophysicist, etc.)

Goals
To boost Malaysias edge as a country with a unique and prominent space education program. To provide Malaysian children with a realistic view of careers in the space industry. To gain an enhanced and interactive syllabus of space science for Malaysian children.

Suggested Activities
Interactive Website
Create an online learning portal for students to learn about space. The website could feature games, videos, and interactive learning material. A Facebook and Twitter link can also be created to further promote the website.

Active Participation in World Space Week

Annually participate in the event and encourage schools to participate on their own will. Teachers can download free material from the official website.

Inter-school Project or Educational Program

Implement Astronomy Month in schools, organizing an array of activities related to space science such as such as rocket-making contests, class decoration competition and organize presentations pertaining astronauts ( i.e. Qualifications of an Astronaut, Food in Space, Job Requirements,etc.)

Downloading Celestia
Celestia is a free space-simulator program that allows users to explore the dimensions of the universe. By encouraging schools with computer laboratories, students are given the opportunity for more interactive learning in school.

Encouragement of Astronomy Clubs

Schools should provide more support to allow the clubs to organize more activities and actively participate in competitions of various levels.

Field Trips

By subsidizing the entrance fee of the National Space Centre or National Science Centre for large groups, schools can actively organize frequent field trips for students.

Space Vacation
Schools can encourage or sponsor students to participate in space camps organized by ANGKASA. Alternatively, the government can also sponsor a child to represent Malaysia in the infamous Space Camp in the United States.

Monthly Pull-out in Newspapers

Implement that the local newspaper publish a monthly pull-out featuring space science and astronomy with fun quizzes and resourceful information.

Further Establish Schools that Actively Participate

Suggest that the Ministry of Education sponsor an active school to expand a hall to be made into a learning centre for space education. In return, other schools may organize trips to the school, creating a tighter bond among schools.
