IMMERSION PROGRAM
A mentorship program for aspiring psychotherapists
involving direct engagement with clients

THE
MENTORSHIP
PROGRAM

The 3 month mentorship program offered by Happlyf

Wellness aims to give practical exposure to the
participants. The program is structured in such a way
that the candidates get enough exposure by providing
counseling sessions to the clients, and for guidance,
there is an experienced mentor.

The program blends both learning and practicing

under the guidance of a seasoned practicing
therapist (the mentor).

The focus is more on experiential learning than

theoretical learning, and all case studies discussed by
the mentor in supervision sessions are actual cases
dealt with by the candidates in the program.

Participating in the supervision sessions by Veerapandian sir
was a turning point in my career as a psychologist. The sessions
provided a reflective platform where I not only refined my skills
but also gained new perspectives on my therapeutic approach.
It's a journey that transformed me into a more understanding
and resilient psychologist. His profound insights and guidance

It’s my fortune that I can work at Happlyf Wellness and have Mr.
Veerapandian as my mentor. His wisdom, compassion, and
dedication have not only shaped my professional growth but
have also inspired me to become a better therapist. His ability to
navigate complex psychological concepts with such clarity and
empathy has been truly remarkable. I am incredibly grateful for
all the valuable lessons he has imparted, and I feel privileged to
have had the opportunity to learn from him.

Jasmin KP - Therapist at Happlyf Wellness and former

student of Mr Veerapandian at TISS Chennai

I have been attending supervision sessions with VP for more

than two years. I can see a gradual and steady growth in my
career under his guidance. One of the best things I have picked
up from my supervision with VP is that I am capable of
developing my own identity and style in therapy. This
encouragement and support to be the best version of myself,
understanding my own strengths and weaknesses in the area,
has been a game changer.

Haritha Aswin - Therapist at

Happlyf wellness
Supervision sessions with VP have been incredibly helpful for me
as a psychologist. His experience, knowledge, and insights into
different ways of helping people through therapy have provided
me with a wonderful learning opportunity. The knowledge I have

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can distance PG holders apply?

Yes, as long as both your UG and PG were psychology majors.

Can students in their final year of PG apply?

No. Only candidates who have completed their PG (result

published) can apply for the program.

Why is there an interview?

Since the program involves direct engagement with clients

(counselling sessions), we have to ensure that the candidates
enrolling in the program have sufficient knowledge to handle
such sessions. This program is not meant for total beginners.

Do I have to prepare for interview?

Minimal preparations are enough. Make sure you are relaxed

before the interview, you are in a neatly lit room without
disturbances and have a reliable internet connection. The
interview will be conducted online and would last around 20 -
30 minutes.

Who will be the interviewer?

Interviewer will be one of the practicing psychotherapists at

Happlyf wellness. The interviewer would be focusing on
understanding your knowledge and experience regarding
counseling / therapy.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What happens after the interview?

You will be contacted to convey the result of your interview

within 3 days. If you have cleared the interview, you may apply
for the program and proceed with payment and other
formalities. If you were not able to clear the interview, you may
apply after 3 months again if you wish to do so.

Are there lectures in the program?

Only a few hours of the sessions with the mentor are initially
dedicated to lectures. This will focus on aspects candidates
have to take care of before their first counseling session. Once
candidates start engaging with clients, sessions with mentors
take the form of proper group supervision sessions.

How are sessions with clients scheduled?

Once the program begins, you will be introduced to the course

coordinator, who will be coordinating all aspects of the
program. The initial contact of clients is with the course
coordinator, who will share a brief of the client's difficulties
with you. If you are confident enough to take up the case, the
course coordinator will schedule the session when both the
client and therapist (you) are available.

What is an integrative approach to school of thoughts?

Your mentor, Mr. Veerapandian, is familiar with a number of

schools of thought, including TA, CBT, psychodynamics, client-
centered therapy, etc.

As this is the case, the program would not focus on a single

school of thought but rather allow the candidate to pursue
their own school of thought and get insights from the mentor
in case of confusion. This is what we call an integrative
approach in the program.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does supervision sessions work?

For the program, group supervision is done every week for 2

hours with the mentor. The mentor acts as the facilitator for
the session and guides the discussion, provides feedback, and
ensures that the group stays focused on the relevant issues
discussed.

During each session, a few of the candidates present cases

from their counseling sessions for discussion. They may
describe the client's background, the presenting issues, the
therapeutic interventions used, and any challenges
encountered.

After a case presentation, the supervisor and group members

offer feedback, suggestions, and reflections on the presented
case. This feedback may include practice insights, alternative
perspectives, or suggestions for therapeutic approaches.

These sessions every week with the supervisor help the

candidates improve their counseling skills, gain confidence in
the approaches they use, and reflect on any mistakes that
need correction.

Will there be case studies?

Yes, but not in the typical sense. The cases of fellow

candidates will be discussed in the supervision session, from
which you will gain valuable insights. Your case discussed
under supervision becomes a case study for everyone else. In
this way, not only will you have a number of case studies to
learn from, but you will also see how those cases evolve over
the weeks to come!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is there an exam at the end of the program?

No, the program does not have an exam at the end. The
program focuses on gaining practical counseling experience
and supervision rather than certification.

Do I get a certificate after completing the program?

Yes, you will receive a 3-month internship certificate from

Happlyf Wellness upon completion of the program. The same
would be highly valuable when applying for a psychotherapist
post.

Is there placement support on completing the program?

Yes, Happlyf Wellness will refer you, as one of the program

attendees, to our recruitment partners. This would give you a
chance for an interview with your potential employer.
Selection is done based on your interview performance and
other criteria laid out by the recruiter.

You may also apply for positions at Happlyf Wellness if there is

an opening.

What other supports do I recieve?

Happlyf Wellness would also help you find a long-term

supervisor. Continuing supervision will help you gain valuable
guidance, support, and feedback to enhance your therapeutic
skills, develop confidence, and navigate ethical challenges in
your practice.
